What we need are what Wenger took to Arsenal roughly 1997. Vieira and Petit type players. 2 centre midfielders that can get stuck in, get forward and score goals.

Let's reign it in with all they inexperienced signings with potential. We need more proven players and no that doesn't mean they have to be in the over-paid/fed mould of Mutton and Warnock. Petrov has not been adequately replaced and we're missing him.

Agree totally.

Too many inexperienced players is very risky indeed. Bit of quality in the middle, please.

Forget Young and Downing, we've never repalced Barry or Milner. We had this in the early 00's after Boateng and Taylor (nowhere near as good as the former two) went and we had severals seasons of drift.

Quality in the midfield has to be a priority.

Seeing as we need a Paul Lambert style midfielder we probably have the best man in place to find one.

Doesn't really work like that though does it?

Indeed. McLeish was a more than decent defender as a player. He signed Alan Hutton. And our defence was shite.

I read somewhere that Denisov has been frozen out of the Zenit squad and forced to train with the reserves.  Quality defensive midfielder but I fear that the Premier League is no longer the cash cow it once was compared to the Russian league.

His spat is that he is upset that Hulk and Witsel's wages were much higher then everyone elses. So I assume that he'll be after quite a bit more then we can afford from any suitors.

one thats like Viera, Petit, Keane which isnt going to happen cheap unless we unearth a gem which is what we are trying to do with the sort of players we have already signed.

the people who are always banging on a about a midfield enforcer when the likes of karl Henry are mentioned who we probably can afford run a mile, but thats the sort of 'enforcer' we can afford, so lets stop kidding ourselves

Tiote, Mulumbi, N'Zonzi, Sandro, Diame and M'Bia were all players who would improve us who we could have afforded tbf.

We should have signed Michael Bradley when we had the chance though.

Lambert has replaced nore than half the team. He has also installed a top scouting system which i am sure has been under constant instruction to look out for the type of players Lambert needs. I am confident come January he will have several options. Think people have got to remember how shit our football has been and how Lambert is changing philosophy and attitudes. I have massive faith in the progression he is installing. In Lambert we trust ......

Was there anything to suggest he looked anything but out of his depth in English football?

He only played just over 100 minutes of first team football for us, and a lot of that was in the Man City cup surrender.

Still amazes me that people decide that was enough time to judge him on, while happy to give Bannan, Albrighton etc still more time to prove themselves.

I'm thinking more that in all of that time, Bradley was anonymous. At least you can point to games or moments where Bannan and Albrighton have influenced proceedings.
