Seems we've got another "yes-man" as manager. If Lambert's happy to go with the current players on the strength his job is safe, he should look at what happened to the last guy in the hot-seat and he managed to keep us up!  He should ask for money and if not forthcoming, walk away with a bit of his reputation intact, because if he takes us down he won't be getting offered the Forest job next or anything like it. Sadly i don't think he's got the bollocks to stand up to our owner.

What you mean like MON?  Apparently he asked Lerner for more money, didn't get it, walked away then took the club to the cleaners via a tribunal under the guise that he was forced to leave because his job had become untenable.  Bloody brilliant this European employment law nonsense.  No Greg N'Ash he should not walk, he should get his head down and get on with the job he is paid to do which is coach the players and manage the day to day playing side.  If he does that and it proves that over a 38 game season we are not good enough to remain in the division then so be it.  Running away when the going gets tough, rather than proving your managerial ability to ride a crisis and come through it stronger is not the thing to do, only weak lily livered folk like MON do that and PL is not cut from the same cloth i'm sure of that.

He's got you skewered there Greg, and no mistake. MoN as a no-man par excellence, being endorsed by his most vociferous and determined detractor.

Yes, H&V's voice of reason on the horns of a dilemma.

Not even vaguely simlar situations. MON left just before the season, had a squad containing quality players,  had spent a bloody fortune already, and WAS given the money for Ireland. With Lambert we've got a guy who presumably bought into the whole kids plan and now its going pear-shaped he's refusing to change tact. If you haven't got the tools to do the job then you're just wasting your time just doing a crap job albeit a very well paid crap job. A manager with any pride would either try and get lerner to change his mind or walk.

And sometimes you just have to hold or use the tools slightly differently to change the outcome.  You can call PL all you like but unlike MON he is no quitter.  He believes in his ability and in his players, something MON clearly did not when he walked out 5 days before the start of 10/11 season.  I am sure PL has more that made his opinions known to RL about what he would like to do with the squad both in this window and those in the future.  If RL is not agreeing to PL requests then of course he has a dilemma but running away is not in his make up and is certainly nothing to be proud of or in anyway a demonstration of one's pride in a job!!  Get real man and grow some cojones.

France football saying Sissoko will be going to Newcastle for €2.5-3m and Sissoko's waiving a signing-on fee from Newcastle in order to do it. This is a club one point and one place above us, who we play next in a crucial game in under a week, signing the exact player we need for astonishingly minimal money.

I think I actually hate the people in charge at the club right now. They can fuck off down a very deep hole.

Sissoko is making very strong noises about wanting to go to Newcastle though, referencing their strong French cohort as reason and saying this will help him to settle into the club.  I agree that we should at least be bidding for a player of his quality when the price is so low but how do you or I know that we haven't?  We just don't know do we.

There's not much you can do if a player doesn't want to join us. I see he's quoted as stating that the number of French players at Newcastle will help him settle. Any potential signing watching our games over recent months must hope he can find some where better to play than Villa.

Yes, you're probably right. I suppose it's just galling to see that one of our main rivals have, just ahead of our crucial game against them, got themselves into a position where Tuesday night's midfield battle will be Cabaye and Sissoko against Westwood and Delph. It's just galling to know we have almost no chance.

I don't think many of us actually even thought we may go down last season until the Bolton game. During the Houllier season, most doubts went after we won that must-win Newcastle game. This season, I personally knew we would be in a dogfight all season after the Everton game.

The pre-season game at Forest game was the one that set the alarm bells ringing for me.
I did have a gut-feeling even before the season started that we may struggle but the Everton game confirmed it.

Admirable post but can I suggest talking to some livingstone fans before you decide on his character.  I don't think it will happen as I think he's probably grown up a lot since then but I  think there is previous to suggest that he may throw the toys out of the pram.

It is very rare that you can get to the stage where you bid for a player and keep it quiet. The fact that even the journos that seem to be 'ITK' have said all window we are not close to bringing anyone in suggests we haven't bid for anyone yet.

Exactly,
For all we know we may have approached loads of players/ agents, but just been turned down.

How can you have pride in a job if you're doing it badly?  He's here for the money like TSM before him or he'd be putting Lerner on the spot and at least questioning publicy why Lerner won't invest given what's at stake. Instead all we get is "me and the chairman, best pals, lovely bloke blah, blah blah".  We'll go down if we don't get players - pure and simple. If Lambert knows that and he'd have to be a halfwitt not to, then you tell me why he's sticking at a job that's doomed to failure? Not pride thats for sure.

@petecolley: PL has said because of high wages and asking price it's unlikely any players will be added during the transfer window!

Maybe trying to publicly coax teams and players/agents to lower prices and wages down. I can't imagine couple championship players (like Dale Stephens) asking for high wages.

It's a false economy saving money now on 'high wages and asking price', because it'll cost us a lot more in the long run. But it would be pointless trying to explain that to the idiots in charge of this club.

yep. Another example of the club just throwing him to the wolves. Surely someone at the club should have had a word and told him to stop using it everytime a mike is stuck in front of him?
