God, there's some bad vibes here: yes, they've conceded sloppy goals and I think that PLambert has perhaps over-subbed the team in the second half but FFS we're in the process of a complete re-build here. It isn't going to happen overnight and I think that we will get much better through the season.
Why not give the manager the benefit of the doubt rather than immediately get on the doom-loop.

Got to agree. We need to remember that this is very much a team in progress, made up of a lot of young lads, many with no top league experience, mistakes will be made, and i'm sure Lambert will let them know about it. Move on from this, take the mistakes and poor play, and build on it this week, to improve against west brom

You'd hope to be getting a point from Southampton before we have to play Albion and then Spurs though.

This thread is so fucking depressing. No wonder it's said that we don't give people a chance, I'm glad the media don't monitor forums - it's embarrassing.

Work in progress for god sake people - get a grip.

We're more than entitled as fans to say how shit we've been today.

Yes it's a work in progress but this performance is unacceptable on every level.

Do you think when Lambert points out how crap the defence was for all 3 goals he will accept his players saying "get a grip boss, we're a work in progress"?

Fucking dire today and EXACTLY like last season but with different players.

No of course he won't. He also won't make statements like we are CERTAIN to go down unless we make signings in January. I never at all said we can't say we've been shit today but to default to wrist slashing relegation talk is ridiculous and show's people don't seem to have any realistic idea about what the aims need to be for this season.

I'm sure PL will take his share of the blame for the performance and capitulation in the 2nd half. He made changes and substitutions that havent paid off. Take it on the chin, learn from the mistakes and move onto the next game.

Bennett looks about 13.

That's the thing I am worried about. Not that a player looks 13, but that it's great taking a punt on young players from the lower leagues, but I wonder if we've risked a bit too much in doing that.

Westwood, Bennett and Lowton have a handful of top flight appearances between them. Lowton has done pretty well, but I think there is going to come a time this season when we'll be looking for someone with a bit of experience to come in and provide a bit of backbone, a bit of savvy.

Who is that going to be?

Completely agree mate.
Happy to say we've been shit but there's gonna be plenty of ups and downs this season.
Suddenly players who were class last week are useless?

Spot on fella

"People"?

It was one person who said we were "certain" to go down.

4-1, and you have to say that Southampton have deserved it - Villa have been fucking shit this half; no fight, no ideas, and a pretty humiliating scoreline.

I'm off to get pissed.
