This is a quote from the original article (here)

Quote
‘Now, if the king of Saudi Arabia wants to buy West Ham we would happily step aside for the good of the club. But we wouldn’t step aside for a mystery foreign buyer whose financial resources we have no knowledge of.’

Bloody hell, for sheer bare faced hypocrisy that takes the biscuit!

What he really means is they would want to know the cheque wouldn't bounce.

If owners are in it to make money are they not by proxy running the club correctly by not spending more than the club earns!

What a spacka :-)

Guess who said the following:

Quote
“With great effort, we have sourced a multi-millionaire, backed by other mega rich Chinese investors who we hope can achieve for the club what we have failed to achieve.”

Be funny if it's Carson Yeung and his cronies again.

This is the first time I've seen this.

He's probably right, but it's a bit pot/kettle coming from him. Gold seems to have persuaded Sullivan to keep his thoughts to himself a lot recently. Personally I wish he could get a court order to gag him personally, he doesn't do himself or the club any favours when he opens his mouth like this.

He isn't right at all.  It's the 'hobby' owners of Man City and Chelsea who have essentially ruined Premier League football, with the help of the Sky money of course.  Coming over here to try to make money (not that either the Villa or Liverpool owners have been very good at that) isn't the problem at all, and indeed is exacly what the UEFA fair play rules are based around.

They will happen

They won't work because some of the clubs who would be worst effected (real madrid are the prime example) are some of the most powerful and they'll just sulk and restart talks of a european super league outside the control of UEFA, all UEFA can do is tell the players that playing for those clubs would make them ineligible for international but most players wouldn't care if they're playing for the best clubs in the world and being paid sillly money to do it.

I think they'll work in the opposite way UEFA want them to, by making competition even more of a closed shop than it already is.

It's a bit like how the EU thought of the bright idea of ending Sky's exclusivity to Premier league rights. They thought competition would make it better for the consumer, but has in fact made it more expensive. Any idiot could have told them that, but of course, this is the EU, run by a breed of super-idiots. Oh shit, here I go again - I'll shut up now.

The thing is, all the Billionaire owner has to do is sponsor his own club for £1b over 5 years then the club is operating within it means as they now have £200m a year extar to play with.

I've always thought this about financial fair play. If you only spend what you earn then doesn't that just mean Man U will win the league every year for evermore?

There are rules in there designed to prevent non-commercial transactions like that.  Whether they will work or not, who knows.
