Afterwards in the crown and cushion everyone was a little downbeat , till Ron said "do you want to be against us"  the place exploded , afters and loads of singing the old songs .

I believed him then , it was such an uplift

I was in the Crown & Cushion after the game too and the mood did turn more positive towards closing time. For some reason I remember that C Crew song to the tune of Young Ones by Cliff Richard being belted out. A few cockier C Crew boys were having a bit of banter with Jonny Haynes, which wasn't always a wise decision when he had taken drink.

I was actually with JH , I knew him from the odd trip on the Sutton coach , there was bit of banter but most of us  knew him well , he was not to be trifled with if he did not know you , and I think it was more about us giving the gaffer a bit of grief over afters .

good lad JH ,  could curdle milk with his sourpuss at times

remember hanging on for grim death to my scarf whilst engaged in one hand , one foot fight with some bloke in his twenties , I was only blooming 15 ,  I was saved by a well known Steamer who gave the kid a right smack , the rest Is history

I prefer Norwich to their Suffolk rivals. I remember that last day game in 1995 when we stayed up, they were already doomed. Both sets of fans sung "Chase out" in tribute to their hated Chairman. Also, sang "Were meet again," all good fun.

My brother says that during one game between us both sets of fans were singing "Chase Ellis Out". Before my time.

Oxford away in the Milk Cup semi final second leg.

Every single thing about it was wrong. We were pathetically limp, just awful. The ground was horrendous and pretty much all we could see was the cage you were effectively in there, there was so much fencing..

People talk about that Stoke home match under MON a few years ago, or other limp defeats, but really, I find it hard to believe I'll ever have a more depressing football experience than that semi final.

We spent the journey back arguing with each other in my friend's mother's Maxi, and were unable to get a drink pretty much anywhere on the way back.

I had a feeling that day was going to go badly right from the off, when we artfully wrote ASTON VILLA across the middle section of a (really thin material) Union Jack we'd found somewhere, to take with us, only to lift it up and see that my mate's mom now had a lovely table with "ASTON VILLA" written on it in permanent marker pen, as it had gone through the flag.

That's the first time I've laughed about anything relating to that game. On here, Chico used to do my head in by annually starting a Memories thread about it. If ever there was a Villa game I want to forget more than any other, it was this one. It was utter, utter shite.

I was 9, and I vividly remember crying in bed after my brother come in to tell me the result. He'd promised we'd go if we won.

You are right, Sunny Villa,  it was all good natured - some of the C Crew boys were giving him grief about games he hadn't been to. He pointed out that he had never bottled out of trips to W Ham, Millwall, Chelsea etc, none of whom we had played for a couple of seasons.

We were on the Sutton coach to Anderlecht. Did you go with them on that one?

I seem to remember that after the semi at Oxford we had to file out of the away end through a narrow alleyway a couple at a time which made it easy for the home fans to get a few digs in.

The only thing I remember about the area around the ground was that it looked quite posh.

Oxford was rubbish , we had a few drinks in town , run into a load JBC going to Leicester  after coming out of the bookies , which ended with 4 of our number getting smacked and robbed , we dropped them of at Solihull Hospital and carried on , the game was shite , the atmosphere rubbish .

not happy punters we left , if i am honest looking for a row and could not even get that .  ended up in Woodstock for grub which was lairy as everyone seemed to have the evils , ended up in a pub, Jim Smiths daughter was working behind the bar , you can imagine .  she was a stunner so she got some light hearted banter as this bedraggled bunch thought they were suddenly in with a chance .

she was great , we got stopbacks and ended up in the gary owen and the khazi noor on the Cov road , after getting thrown out of the swingers club in Balsall common beforehand   oh to be 24 again
