I think Lowts and Bennett both need to bulk up a little. They've got to add some upper body strength, but without sacrificing their pace.

I also think our young full backs will benefit from us signing a really decent center half who can organise things. We need a new Laursen. He always seemed to get the best out of his defensive team mates, keep them in line.
If we can get a sort of Tony Adams figure who can dish out the odd verbal ass kick when one of the lads falls asleep a bit, it will really help the team. We hoped Vlaar would be that, but he isn't. Vlaar himself would benefit from a really dominating defensive partner too.

I agree, but I also feel that Vlaar could be that player.
We have to remember that it was his first season in the Prem, too, with the added pressure of the captaincy it probably wasn't easy for him either.

I like that when Vlaar has been poor or at fault, he does not make excuses and holds his hands up.

As for Bennett on twitter, if Villa fans have made him quit they should be ashamed.

Bennett has apparently deleted his twitter due to abuse from fans. Just want to say, if any of those fans read this, fuck off and delete your own twitter.

Agree, Bennett has really improved since he got fit and had a run in the team and he'll continue to do so. 80-90% of Twitter appears to be a forum for absolute morons, who are cowards and have no morals at all.

This is becoming more and more true.  People hear about cyber bullying on Facebook, but Twitter appears to be getting far worse.

the problem with Twitter is that it allows even the biggest bell ends to participate.

Not Villa, but the death threats Rooney got for handing in a transfer request after being dropped at man u would seem to suggest that some people are misusing twitter / their life.

Its a relief to read James nursey in mirror talk of Lambert looking for full backs one to compete with Bennett i imagine. There's also a mention for an experienced centre half.

Looks like the boss is expecting Joe to come back into the fold.

I can see him coming good next season.

His last game for us if I remember rightly against Chelsea he played really well and deserved to keep his place imo but the next game lambert went back to Bertrand.

I think there's a player there that could benefit from a bit of Sherwood's coaching.

I seem to remember he had a decent cross on him and was decent going forward, but highly suspect defensively.

Which means, on recent evidence, Timbo will love him.

wasnt the whole point of Twitter when it started, that it was meant to be a forum of free speech for the world ( in 120 characters? Or less)? I am on it, but rarely post. Yes, you'll get a lot of dickheads posting nasty stuff on it, but isn't it reflective of the world in which we live? Something like h&v I'd argue is different, as its essentially a single interest forum, so can we can afford to have rules of conduct etc. Twitter though, fuck it, if you don't like what's posted, don't go on there. That's my view- not saying it's right or wrong, just my opinion.

Is there any feedback on how he's done at Brighton?

He's got quality but he's so bad defensively he makes Richardson look solid

I still want a new left back and there are a few signs that we won't be signing too many players? Might be reading too much into things tho

I think Sherwood would be surprised and delighted to have a left-back such as Bennett on the books. With our diamond (ish) formation we rely on our wing-backs and bennett has the ability to cause teams problems down the left - which is the side we are very strong on as it is. Yes defensively he can be suspect but haven't we said that about nearly every full-back that has played in England over the last 20-30 years or so? Save the top players us and every club have full backs that also get tagged with - 'good going forward defensively suspect'.

Judging from the OS picture that popped up on Facebook, he's aged a bit. I do hope he's wiser, too. The lad had quick feet. If he's back in the side come August, I reckon we might finally be able to end our eternal search for a left back! Work your magic, Tim.

Back when both he and Gardner were on loan there, I went over to NSC every few weeks or so to get an update. From what I recalled, Gardner was generally regarded as gash, while Bennett was regarded as fairly serviceable, good going forward but suspect defensively. After GG returned from his loan, I decided there wasn't really any point in looking for updates on just one player who might not even have a Villa future, so I don't know what he was like under Hughton.
