Everton usually start the season pretty slowly, and although Man U also have the tendency to start slowly the result was still, in some ways, a surprise.
I can see us nicking this one by the odd goal, 2-1 Villa. Bannan and Bent

Are we still going to be doing the 19th minute applause for Petrov?

I'm looking forward to the attacking football Lambert talked about bringing back. 'New villa' to win 2-0.

A better performance will see us get a 1-1 draw.

Should we not make any signings before the game, this is the team I'd go for.

                                                         GIVEN

                  LOWTON                VLAAR             CLARK             LICHAJ

                                                        El AHMADI
                                 BANNAN                                     N'ZOGBIA
                                                         IRELAND

                                             BENT                 WEIMANN

Seems I'm not the only one who wasn't terribly impressed with Holman.

1-1.

1-1.

Ran around a lot but didn't actually do anything; plus his passing was terrible.

I thought he was decent in pre-season. He just looked a bit rusty and a bit unfit, probably down to the injury. I'd still play him over N'Zogbia right now.

Don't get me wrong, I thought he was great in pre-season too.

I don't think we can afford to not play Zog t the moment, mind.

I'd go:

------------------Given-------------------

Lowton------Vlaar-----Clark------Lichaj

--------El Ahmadi-Herd-Delph----------

----Ireland--------------------Holman---
-----------------Bent---------------------

If Herd isn't fit. I'd play Gardner or Bannan, and have KEA as the more disciplined midfielder.

Interesting idea, I like the idea of the 3 centre mids. I'd still start Zog over Holman in that team though ;)
