Villa U21 1-1 Middlesbrough U21 - GOAL - 72 mins: Daniel Johnson has equalised from the penalty spot. Johnson raced on to Michael Drennan's flick-on but was tripped by Christian Burgess. He got up to slot home the penalty.

Interesting aswell that there was strictly no access at all to the main part of the training complex to anyone but the players. All parents and supporters had to park in the lower and middle bays only.

Sunderland U21 0-0 Villa U21 - HT - All square at the break after a tight first period at the Academy of Light. Villa's best chance fell to Graham Burke, who volleyed over from the edge of the box. Goalkeeper Benjamin Siegrist was called into action again before the break, diving to his left to tip behind Craig Lynch's curling shot.
