Drennan's improved a lot this year since he lost some bulk last summer.

Samir Carruthers got very good reviews playing for the Irish u-21s during the week. Pointless having him playing reserve football and looks a long way down the queue for first team action. Surely a loan move would help his development far more than playing underage football?

I would be looking to loan the likes of Johnson, Carruthers, Williams, Devine, Siegrist, Burke, Donacien etc. It's nice to keep the group together and so on but the best education they'll get is in meaningful action.

From what I can observe and from what I've learned, the quality is improving down the age groups so these players in their late teens need to be ready to push for a first team squad place or they'll be caught by those behind them.

I think you've got say hats off to the academy. Without the constant stream of players coming through over the last 10 years, we'd be in some real trouble.

Jordan Graham has been ruled out for the season. Shame for the kid, looks a talent.

Just thought I'd also mention that even at this level, the players are now actively being coached to keep it narrow and play through the middle as opposed to with width when Houllier and TSM were in charge.

Good to know. I just wish they would coach our kids variety so that they could play through the middle but also have times where they use width.

Thet's the issue, though. Previously it was almost always just with width now it is almost exclusively through the middle. Very little variation. Seemed to work well today, mind.
