It's the kind of signing MON would have made. For £9 million.

Good to see we're signing a right back. Bad news for Lichaj though. I hope it's Hutton who is sold and not him.

I would see this as Hutton exiting, and Lambert saying to Lichaj and Lowton, fight for your place. Great news IMO.

Hopefully. We're getting the really shaky areas of our team sorted with a minimum of fuss and budget(especially if we resign Guzan). That'll hopefully leave some money for an 'exciting' creative player.

It's great that we have two people fighting for the one position.  I don't think Lichaj has done anything wrong in his role at full back, always gives everything.  I'd stick with him unless Lowton proves to be better.

Maybe he's been signed as a squad player as he's versatile? A modern day (and younger) Simon Grayson type?

I'm sure Lambert has done his homework, I'm trusting in Lambo more than some UTD fans on a forum, but judging by his height I'd say he'd be better at Fullback.

welcome aboard

More I think about it, the more I think that might be the case.  It may work out that we see further strengthening in that area over the summer.

Do you mean Behrami? I know who that is.

It's not Valon Behrami Lambert is looking at, it's Yacine Brahimi

Never heard of the guy, fancy sharing what you know? :)

He's 22 and seems to be a upcoming player and from the few videos I've seen he looks to have bags of speed and not afraid to run at defenders and twist and turn his way around them, either through the middle or cutting in from the left wing and can shoot with either foot and get's some nice movement to the ball when shooting and has scored from tight angles. Looks to have good positioning and reads the game well and picks out his team mates in attack better positioned rather than always going for glory. He's still a young guy and now is probably the perfect time to get a hold of him, he could be our replacement for Ashley Young, who we brought in around the same age.

In his last 9 games, in which he has been subbed or come on as a sub, so not playing full games really he has got a couple goals, an assist and some man of the match awards. He will probably cost us about £2.5m - £3m although, apparently, that may not be an upfront fee and there could be a deal to loan him for a season with an option to buy after.

Here's a profile/stats for him http://www.whoscored.com/Players/78027/Show/Yacine-Brahimi

Quote
Matthew Lowton has spoken of his delight after completing a "dream move" to a "massive Premier League club" from League One playoff runners-up Sheffield United.

The 23-year-old Lowton has signed a four-year deal which will take him up to the end of the 2015-16 season at Villa.

He is the club's third signing of the transfer window, following the acquisition of Karim El Ahmadi and Brett Holman.

Villa boss Paul Lambert described Lowton as "a bright prospect with the potential to be a really good player for us."

Chesterfield-born Lowton is predominantly a right-back but has displayed his versatility in the past by operating in a number of roles across the back four and in midfield for the Blades.

He was an ever-present for Danny Wilson's team in 2011-12, playing in 52 matches in all competitions.

Lowton made 47 appearances in League One - including the playoffs - as United narrowly missed out on promotion with a penalty shootout defeat to Huddersfield in the play-off final.

He found the net six times during the league campaign.

"It's every boy's childhood dream to play in the Premier League and it was one of mine," Lowton said.

"This opportunity is fantastic and I thank the manager for giving it to me. Hopefully I can repay the faith that's he's shown in me and keep going at a higher level.

"Just from driving up to the training ground you can see the difference in the quality of things. The training ground looks spectacular and the pitches look phenomenal. It's a massive club in the Premier League with a big fan base and I'm looking forward to getting to work as soon as I can.

"I played the majority of last season at right back but I have played right midfield and central midfield as well. I think my main asset is going forward and my technical ability but obviously I'm going to try and add whatever the manager is after from me. These are exciting times for me and I can't wait to go out and start playing."

Lambert said: "Matthew is a really talented young player who brings a lot of things that can really benefit the club. He's a good player already and he's only young so he has the potential to be a really good player for us.

"He's hungry to succeed and to go further in the game, both of which are attributes that we want at this football club and that we are looking for.

"We won't put any pressure on him, we just want him to go out and enjoy playing. What he's done so far at Sheffield United has been great so hopefully we can progress him a bit and he'll do very well for us."

Lowton also spoke of his excitement at working with Lambert and with his new team-mates.

"It's fantastic to think I'll be playing under Paul Lambert. I was flattered when I heard the interest and, when speaking to him, he's helped me settle in nicely so far. Hopefully we can get on well and I can fight for my place and play a few games this season.

"As a League One player last season, Premier League players are what everyone looks up to. Seeing guys like Darren Bent and Gabby Agbonlahor and people like that is fantastic. Meeting players who have played international and Premier League football all their lives is amazing.

"You can sense the buzz around the place at the moment. The lads were all having a laugh and joke when I came in this morning and they've all been very welcoming which was very good of them. It's a new era with the new manager and a few new signings.

"The squad has already got some fantastic players, everybody knows them so hopefully we can all come together and have a successful season."

A product of Sheffield United's academy, Lowton progressed through the youth ranks before making his first team debut as a substitute against Cardiff in March 2010.

He had already gained experience of senior football during loan spells at non-league Sheffield FC and United's Hungarian partner side, Ferencvaros.

Lowton contributed to Ferencvaros winning promotion during the 2009-10 campaign before returning to Bramall Lane.

The following season, he featured 32 times for United and chipped in with four goals.

I'm guessing they are trying to stretch that shirt so as it's big enough to fit Dunne.

change the title of this thread there Mod boy. Great to see the picture of the three new signings. It seems such a world away from the disaster of last summer.
