Great appointment in my opinion.  7-10 would be acceptable next season and hopefully decent runs in both cups please.
Hope Lerner does back him up with the rumoured 20m war chest plus any revenue raised from those he may be able to move out. I wouldnt be too concerned if he also moved out Agbonlahor and/or Bent and brought in someone like Jordan Rhodes who wants to prove himself at a higher level .
Hopefully Gardner will continue to improve and become and integral part of midfield and Carruthers get more opportunities to prove his potential.
Priority has to go on defense and a midfielder who can control a game

7th would be an amazing achievement. I can't see it myself unless we go on a massive splurge, which I don't think we will

Unless he is given a decent amount of money I really don't expect us to finish much higher. The squad is threadbare and lacks premiership quality. I would say only Bent, Gabby, Given and maybe Ireland are our only senior players good enough for a top 10 side. We are going to be over relying on the players still coming through. Lambert is a massive improvement on McLeish but he isn't a miracle worker, he must be backed.

My only expectation of Lambert is to actually have a go at the opposition.

Build a team around Given, Ireland and Bent with attacking intent.

Get better seasons from Gabby & NZogbia.

Think about replacing Hutton & Warnock.

Clark & Gardner are the future of our side.

I'm very optimistic as I think even our defence as it stands can cut-out 15-ish goals just by being well-drilled and us having the ball up the other end more. Similarly, CNZ, Gabby, Bent and Ireland might add 15 to the goals for column. That should translate to a lot of extra points, with the key being a functional midfield.

But what I'm looking forward to most is our players actually moving about a bit.

Yes, a bit of movement off the ball will be nice to see.

I want to look forward to and enjoy watching Villa again. Last season I dreaded Villa matches.
I want Villa to try and win every game (I can accept losing if we try to win and the other team is better) and not go out to avoid losing.

That's all for next season.

This for me:

I can honestly say that the trips to VP down the M6 were a drudgery last season - I really couldn`t see us winning games and in the main I was right

Onwards and upwards - when is the ticket office open again?

I think he will have a fair wedge to spend in revamping the midfield and defence.

Too right Clive.  Even the away games were notable only for the beers before hand.  Every single one just made me wish I'd stayed in the pub instead.

I was thinking about this yesterday. I hope Randy has learned from the mistakes of the previous few years. Gradual progression at a steady rate is better than boom and bust. I hope our period of austerity is over, but if not then the addition of one or two proven quality players along with the continued development of our youth and we should be safe from relegation. I'd also like to see something done about the players physical fitness in relation to our injury problems and ball retention. I heard Andy Gray talking recently about his time as assistant manager at Villa during the BFR days. We had Roger Spry as fitness coach, and Andy Gray was waxing lyrical about the virtues of off the ball movement. Apparently Roger Spry was an expert in Brazilian martial arts. Now I'm not saying all the players should be trained killers, but some off the ball movement and making yourself available to receive a pass rather than hoofball would be an improvement. Remember the goal that we scored at home to Sheffield Wednesday under BFR. Total football, not hoofball!

I would like Villa to play for the whole match rather than giving goals away in the last few minutes. It costs us dearly.

This. Though I still think there is some ability in Warnock

Here we go again!! Who will it be this time next year ? When is Lerner going to learn that we need an experienced Manager, not a rookie. If he had given MON the money he wanted instead of wasting it on Hasbeens and failures we would be in the Champions League by now. Look out Championship, we are definitely coming.  :'(
