Can't watch the video yet but what a game, what an atmosphere.

I was in the first 20 or so too in that queue.

In the queue.   At Old Trafford.    In the Holte.   Still my all time favourite Villa experience. Bobby Charlton in print saying that it was no fluke- that Villa were the better team over both legs. And the Final still a magic memory, fans were brilliant and we outplayed Spurs.

Those games are when we got our pride and ambition back. A true turning point.

Would love to see this video - I have wondered for years now why the club have never put this on sale.

I was there as a wee 8 year old and it was my first ever night game and first time on the Holte too. I only remember snippets of the game and being worried in the second half after a half time chat with my dad: he had been off work for 6 monhs after falling off a ladder on a building site and needed a corset to reduce his pain. The ground was so full that he had to put me on his shoulders for the whole game and he told me he was in great pain and we would have to leave at full time even if it went to extra time. We both went crazy at the winning goal, but I think his joy was more out of relief than elation.

As a bonus, the hghlights were on the box when we got back to the Holly Grove working men's club, a real rarity for us in those days. A triple joy -  a semi final win, staying up till late to watch Villa on a colour tv and xmas eve the next day! Even now this is one of the great nights in my Villa memories.

I remember Paddy Crerand saying about Pat McMahon after the Old Trafford leg. "Hes one paced" ....."bloody fast"

I took a bottle of pomagne  (although I insisted it was champagne!) to the second leg at Villa Park . Me and my mate celebrated at will at the final whistle. The greatest footballing night of my life...bar none!

Great memories. By far the largest crowd I had been in in my 16-year old life- until the final at Wembley 2 months later. Definitely up there in my 4 or 5 favourite Villa matches

Wish I could see this.
The little bit on the 'Villenium' video includes the first leg and is in black & white, Davie Gibson crosses for Andy Lochead to score, great celebrations follow.
As others before me have said, and I said on the original thread for this subject, this game is the one that is my top memory of following the Villa.
The atmosphere was never beaten, the feeling of Villa once more becoming a power in football was irresistable, and that period in Villa's history, as mad as it sounds, even topped winning in Rotterdam in my memory.
Maybe it's because I was an impressionable teenager but it never, ever, got as exciting for me as that night in December 1970.

You can see it if you subscribe to AVTV. I'm with you, by the way, on the magnitude of this game. It may be nostalgia, but  the match is probably the best that I have been to. The clip on AVTV, although of a decent duration, does not manage to bring the volume of the crowd over very well.

I agree entirely and I was in my mid twenties.

Brilliant! Close my eyes and I can almost taste it. One of my very favourite memories as a Villa fan, the feeling of pride walking into school next day and raising two fingers to the blose fans who had given the few Villa fans there merciless grief over the recent past

Absolutely this
1970 - 1983 - The best period to be a Villa fan in the last 40 years...
