But nobody on here had even mentioned OGS as a potential manager until yesterday. Now we all seem to be experts on his management potential.

Has anyone ( other than watching a youtube clip) actually followed his career to date? seriously, can anyone tell me what he's like as a manager without re-hashing other peoples' views?

I'm guessing that nobody on here even knew which club he was managing until they checked yesterday?

Very risky if you ask me

You're totally right Chico, I know nothing about his Management career, but I'm thinking "why the hell not", it's totally left field and unexpected, so therefore quite exciting.

Sorry to wheel out this hoary old chestnut but rather like Wenger at Monaco then when he came to Arsenal...or was it Grampus 8, my memory fails me!

I had reservations about this initially but today I'm getting really enthused about it. Randy tried throwing money at it via MON and it failed. He tried a change of football approach through Houllier and that failed (largely through ill health). He tried a steady pair of hands and that was a disaster. Now it looks like he's going for building something more steadiliy through a young exciting manager, hopefully playing entertaining football. Bring it on

Monday was the quietest Villa Park has ever been for a managerial leaving. You can guarantee that if we get OGS the world's media will be at the press conference.

Providing Liverpool do not announce their new manager on the same day.

A risk yes, but I am fed up of looking around at other clubs, prepared to take a chance, and thinking why couldn't we do that.
It's a risk I am happy to take and really want this to happen.
I will happily take steady progress over the next couple of years while he hopefully builds something.
I can already feel the pride coming back and looking forward to us all coming back together again for the sake of our club.
Next season, the alocohol intake prior to the match will hopefully be an atmosphere enhancer rather than something to help me forget! :)

I think he could be a great appointment but it is a huge gamble.

Our last two appointments were huge gambles but not great appointments, so he has that advantage over them.

It would have to be a long term project, not an AVB immediate success requirement that ultimately backfires. He will still be learning within the job so fans will have to give him a chance.

I just hope RL & PF do a better job of selling the club to him than they did with Martinez last year.

It may also be a certain Manchester club will be keeping an eye on his appointment with us for a future job there.

They never even spoke to martinez as he turned down the opportunity to have talks .

Well I'd assume, as with any interview, there would of been prior contact and some form of portfolio sent on the club and it's requirements for the role etc. If this didn't happen then that confirms that the club didn't do it's job properly.

I think it's a done deal. He's had all week to 'think' about it and decide if he wants the job. And thats only the official line. I'm sure he would have been aware of this before Tuesday!

One thing is for sure, even if we don't land OGS our hatred of Wheelan has been upped a notch or two.

If he's not careful he could even surpass Gold.

Help me catch up.  What has he said now?

He's been like Tumnus for the past few weeks minus the helicopter.

Disrespecting our club on more than one occasion too.

the fella's just fighting his corner, playing the big clubs for twats, and in our case getting the better of us last term,
he's a wiley old git, but ultimatley harmless, dont understand the hatred towards him at all

I think it's his lack of respect for us, thinking we're too small time for his Manager. He was the same last summer over the N'Zogbia transfer - as I said earlier...he's a prick. Faulkner is useless with the media and these cheap shots should be countered - what use is the General these days? for a board member, his involvement appears to be zero. When was the last time he attended a match at Villa Park?

Getting on the plane, presumably spending the aftenoon wandering around Bodymoor and letting Randy shmooz him for a couple of days is what a salesman might call a huge buying signal.

Time to close the deal.

Having watched that YouTube clip and listened to his footballing philosophies, I think it's fair to say he won't be persevering with muppets like Hutton, Warnock Collins etc. bring it on.

We would probably struggle to get a proven premiership manager, so everything is a gamble. We are going nowhere at the moment, bloody exciting trip or a catastrophe waiting to happen but worth taking the risk. We new Mcleish was shit, can't tell what solskjaer will be like so is worth a punt. Chelsea had AVB was that a bad choice, he certainly is not a bad manager, who really knows how it will work out. But if we keep doing the same thing expect the same results.

@Villafirst The general is no longer at AVFC.  He has gone back to the US to the south Birmingham college of Alabama or something along those lines
