Has Randys private jet pilot got his Norfolks and Norways mixed up in search for a new gaffer?

Actually for me, very exciting. Mainly because of his youth and passion, and I have a good feeling and hope I am not wrong. As someone pointed out, serving under Fergie for so many years can't do him any harm (although a counter argument could be, would we be happy with Bruce or Hughes coming here who were under the same heirarchy; probably not).

Its a more enjoyable thought than a few of the names been banded about, thats for sure! Hope we get him.

To be fair Bruce and Hughes were just players at United

OGS joined the backroom team there  and would have been involved with coaching etc

I think he's very different from all the others that have come out from Fergie's shadow.

Most of them have had to move away to get coaching roles, OGS was on the verge of retiring away from the game and was convinced by Fergie to go into coaching.

Then look at the assistants that have left man u and failed, none of them have had the personality to be the 'main man' OGS seems to have that as well.

Yeah I suppose, didn't really consider that with regards to them not getting involved in the actual coaching at Manyoo.

I think it is going to excite the majority of fans if we do get him though, and certainly falls under that press release of 'vibrant and young'. Norweigian league or not, he knows enough about the premier league I reckon to do well with us, and the quicker he (hopefully) gets hear, the sooner he can start getting rid of some of the deadwood and instilling confidence in the players who are going to be important to us.....maybe even re-vitalise Gabby!

It's a yes from me and my missus (unfortunately) will also be renewing our season tickets.

A lot of points have been raised about him managing in Norway, didn't our own John Gegory move from the 4th division to the 1st division to manage, surely the Norweigan league is at a slightly higher level.

Another plus is that we should get all the young norweigan talent coming to us.

It would be a brave exciting appointment, and probably attractive to him. Team of talented youngsters who he would know from red days, good support and chairman who would have to back him after mcknob appointment

Oh Bollox, here we go again. This is how this works:

We get a manager, he proves to be shite, we clamour to get rid, he goes, we then wax lyrical about all the exciting possibilities, one by one they f*ck us off and we're left with the shite.

I can see him kissing the red devil badge now as we go down to our customary demolition at Old Trafford.

It's all sooooooo predictable. Mug me off if you want but I know I'm right.

Yet another manager of our great club deeply in love with another. Woopee do.

"We get a manager, he proves to be shite, we clamour to get rid, he goes, we then wax lyrical about all the exciting possibilities..." That's the only accurate bit.

It's as if you want the rest of it to happen.

Nope

Martinez spurned Villa’s advances a year ago and, after his astonishing end to the season in keeping the Latics up, has been installed as one of the favourites for the vacancy at Anfield.
Another go? Wigan's Roberto Martinez turned Villa down last summer, will they go back for him this time around?

Getting bored with being right. Ha det

What does that article prove? We went after him last season, so its unsurprising that we'd be linked again.

We clearly haven't gone after him this year, do you seriously think Dave Whelan would miss out on another ego stroking opportunity to tell the press his boy rejected us again.

I don't think we have either. I'm just saying that its easy to link us because of the story last year.

Top marks to Randy for trying. Totally left field and demonstrates that he's not oblivious.

Gripe dagen, Ole.

I want this.

It will be very interesting to see if they back him with cold hard cash. If we go into the new season with 4 or 5 players in the 5-8m bracket then he's got a chance to implement his ideas. If they expect him to survive with the kids and the hoofers then I fear he will go the way of the last 2 incumbants however talented he is. To be fair i'd have the same view if rodgers or Lambert took over.

Yes, 110% yes.
Why not? Even McLeish couldn't relegate us so we'll be okay whatever happens, and we just might be employing one of the up and coming stars of football management. Okay so when he gets us into the top four he'll be straight off up the M6 but fuck it, it'll be a ride.

Fergie would be a hard act to follow. He might fancy making his own history.

I believe he's on record saying getting the man utd job is his dream.   He'll not be around long either way!

Good luck to him, if he comes here and does well enough to get the man u job we'll have had a few years of being a damn sight better than 16th in thwe league with 37 goals all season.

We should be aiming for better than that Paul, surely?  What a piss poor tinpot club we have become if that's what we are aiming for.  It's the boom and bust Ellisian Aston Villa, all fits and starts and going nowhere in particular.  There's no long term security in this appointment, we'll constantly be looking over our shoulders due to the manager being tipped to go elsewhere.  In the meantime such a situation belittles our club even more in the eyes of the media because, of course, we will now be known as  "Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's Aston Villa."

Trust me I do not. Lambert or Rogers would be my ideal. Once upon a time the manager's at Norwich and/or Swansea would have walked from their posts to VP for our hotseat.

To reiterate, I do not want to be pissed off at the end of next or any other season.

Why would he be linked with any other job more than any other successful Villa manager would?

I wasn't aware that the managers of Norwich and Swansea have had any say in the matter.

Strikes me that "we'd better not employ such and such a manager in case he gets really good and leaves" is about as small time and short sighted as it gets.

Have you thought about just how good a job someone like Solksjaer would have to do with us to have a chance of getting the Man U job?

He might really want it, but that's one of the four or five biggest jobs in world football.
