Last games of last season:
Swansea beat Liverpool
Norwich beat Us
That'll teach the little upstarts.

Wenger for the Albion then!

Paul Lambert will do a fantastic job, he's the one I wanted all along, I just didn't think we could.
Sign him up tomorrow Randy and let the good times roll!! I'm well happy with this!

UTV!

Thanks for that link

But the path to appoint the Norwich boss was undoubtedly made easier after Villa made it clear, as outlined in Sportsmail yesterday, that Martinez had lost ground in  the race when he was interviewed by Liverpool owner John W Henry last week.

What sort of BS is this?  The man is in demand because he coaches football - not longball - that Liverpool wanted him should be a plus in my book - but I have the awful feeling that Faulkner/Lerner haven't even invited him for an Ole style 'chat' - and old uncle Dave is railroading the kid with his pronouncements.

In my book its great, because Martinez is one of THE most overrated managers I've ever seen. His teams are shit, and I don't care how ace Wigan looked for the last 2 months of the season, it's the preceding 7 months that concern me. If he's elected to stay at Wigan over the Liverpool and Villa jobs, then it's confirmed everything I've ever believed about him; unambitious and shit.

Happy enough with lambert.

Makes it more delicious Norwich (who had to pay compensation for stealing him from Colchester) are pissed off about it.

Doubly better that we rejected Martinez and Whelan is left looking like a twat (is it wrong I want to see them relegated next season?).

Well the last  Norwich manager who later joined the Villa turned out to be a goodun if I remember correctly and a lot were'nt overwhelmed by his appointment.
Does strike me a bit of a MONlite at times though.(photogenically that is)

I don't like him either, but how is he a twat? Looks to me like he managed (in his own way) to keep his key employee for another season.

He looks rather foolish after bigging up Martinez only to have him rejected by two clubs in a few days. But you are right, maybe his aim all along was to shine a light on ay approach to try and make Martinez leaving uncomfortable.

In which case, I suppose you are right, he has kept his man. if I was Martinez I would not be happy with Whelan at all though.

Lambert was my No 1 choice all along throughout the OGS hysteria.

Sides play good football, good experience in his playing career of different styles, a winner.

He'll be good for us I reckon.

Can I pretend Lambert was my number one choice all along?

If him being like MON means we have wembley visits and top6 finishes - I'll take that over the last two seasons.

Rather disparaging remarks from BBC Sport

'Villa are not the enticing proposition they once were, and Norwich are no 'country cousins' by comparison - Carrow Road's 22,000 season tickets last season matched that sold at Villa Park. '

Yeah, but the beeb are comparing Norwich's peak (their first season in the EPL in ages) with our trough (worst season anyone can remember...blah blah).

If the writer had just thought for one second he'd realise that for any Manager this is the perfect time to be joining us - our expectation level has probably never been this low.

Our youth set up is excellent and we've plenty of promising young players meaning he'll have the backbomne of the squad long term, money to spend (hopefully) and full support from the support base (in comparison to the last 2 managerial appointments).

And regardless of season ticket sales, we'll always be a bigger Club the Norwich City FFS!  Norwich in the top flight for the first time in ages, small stadium etc so that's no surprise really.

You wonder how such writers hold down their jobs such is their ignorance and short sightedness.
