I'm going to call him Larry. It will probably wear off as soon as you all tell me I'm being a tit.

If Lambert's resigned before Randy has decided / announced he wants him?
Been here before.
But he has been top of the betting for a week, at least. So maybe a stronger position than Mark Hughes.

Wait an ex old firm manager quits, breaking his contract to join us, for which we will pay compensation hours after rumours of Martinez not joining us appear.

Did I see this movie before?  ;D

*seriously, I would be happy enough with Lambert.

Hey he was a player not a manager. What crack were you smoking?

*lets just pretend I never posted that eh?

The problem with managerial resignations are they can cause something to drag on for ages if the 'wronged' club decide to really push the breach of contract thing.

TSM also resigned, never stopped us signing him. (and having to pay compensation).

I think it's a very different set of circumstances to that with Hughes.

We won't call you a tit, but we will wonder what the f**k you keep talking about Huddersfield's manager for!  ;D

Well Lambert coming is not going to get me excited, just MON mark 2 for me.  Another example of RL and PF not getting their man i'm afraid.  Nothing vibrant there and not that young either.  Lambert plays a fair bit of direct football too.  As for Grant Holt, if that is the best Lambert can come up with then he needn't bother coming.  We have just got rid of one 30+ striker we dont want or need another thanks.  Don't forget his team were one of the few we managed to beat last season, the late goal from Holt flattered them that day at VP.

Oh dear another opportunity missed can't see his appointment making any difference to crowds next season either.  I hope he comes for talks and decides its not for him I really do.

so has Lambert publicly said Holt is going to be my first signing , is he manager of Villa already .

It is indeed. Hughes walked on the arrogant assumption of getting the job without any encouragement and then wanted to bring his entourage. Lambert may well for all we know have already had discussions, and our board may have stepped into the 21st century and made sure he is their man long before making the approach.

Fair enough.

Wouldn't mind PL as manager, and he certainly has nailed his colours by resigning.  However I'm still holding on for a hero from secret negotiations!

I've just realised, he'd be our first manager younger than me.

On that basis, he can fuck right off.

Well we wasnt going to get Craig Brown

I'll take Lambert. He looks like the type of nasty bastard that gets players playing.
Can't believe some of the posts on here and VT I have always had a soft spot for Norwich and hope they continue to do well in the Premiership. But come on, to compare them with Villa is an absolute joke we are a very special football club (I remember vividly our 3rd division days) and always will be. This club has the potential as we have seen recently to strike at the top four we must not allow the Villa to slip any further behind than we have since the summer of 2010. I found it easy to predict that the previous manager would leave at the end of the season, it was a no brainer. I have struggled to predict or have a favourite for his successor. However, PL has an impressive CV and if the Board believe that this can benefit us I would back his appointment all the way. What will impress me is that he has the vision and the balls to take the job I want him to become our modern day Ron Saunders and get this club back on track. I'm sure there is an historical link there but Dave will remember that better than me.

Ron Saunders used to manage Norwich before Villa. Dion Dublin, Andy Townsend and Chris Sutton all used to play for them. They've got a great old ground, terrific support and Delia is a legend.
The only bad thing I can say about them is their doubling over us in '92/'93 cost us the title as much as those 100 minutes of injury time at Old Trafford.

On page 500 of this thread a new Villa leader will be born. Hallelujah!
