It's where? I've had a quick search and I can only find the table from 2010/11. If you could point me in the right direction that would be smashing.

Second Table, Pass Type.

Of course not pointing out that second was everyones favourite footballing manager in 'Arry.

What is coonsidered a long ball in those stats?  Think there is a world of difference between good balls up to a front man's feet and chest, and the kind aimless hoofs upfield we saw from Villa last season.  I know it is a different era, but Graham Taylor was labelled a "long ball" manager, but we played some pretty decent football under him first time around.  It might just be me, but I personally wouldn't want to watch Swansea play every week.  I would much rather watch an incisive, attacking team who mix the play up a bit (like Newcastle or Spurs do).

Just back from footy and I see Lambert in the frame. Good news.

I couldn't care less about long balls, short balls or square balls as long as they end up in the opposition net more often than ours.
This.
When we appointed AM I said he'd be a hero at VP if he won every game 1-0....

We all know the rest....

According to that table we attempted fewer long-balls on average than Wigan, Swansea, Man Utd or Fulham.

I say that we either get Alex McLeish and his neat, passing football back or assume that these statistics are not all they are cracked up to be.

Dear Dave the Moderator (sounds like a pop act)

Only an opinion

And maybe it's a case of cutting his cloth etc - but anyone who says they don't care what type of football we play I don't understand.  If it is Lambert - I will wish him well and support him and look forward to a very large slice of humble pie.

Felt all along that Lambert is right for us . Question is does he feel the same about us ?
Our style ,if we have one, has always been counter attacking with wingers and pace with one or two midfielders who can do some damage as well ,and a traditional centre forward (Gray, Withe Dublin Carew etc.)
I really hope we can get him as apart from the raw excitement of the OGS potential, Martinez and Rodgers never seemed a Villa fit.
If he turns us down start worrying !

A lot of that is due to the fact that we had so little possession that, whilst we hoofed it away a lot other clubs played more long passes due to having more time on the ball.  The short passes per game stat is the telling one from our season.

On topic Lambert is ok, I won't be disappointed but I'm not a huge fan, not so much the football, which was monball but with a bit of tactical skill, but I just think he comes across as a bit of an arse when he's interviewed.  I worry he believes his own hype too much in all honesty.  Same with Martinez and Rodgers which is why I've never wanted any of them.

I will, of course, back him if he comes but I can't help but feel we've missed an opportunity with this one, if only the ogs stuff hadn't gone public it could all have been very different.

I'm definitely thinking the latter Dave, unless balls sliced into the crowd didn't register.

I'm guessing it is completed passes, which kind of explains the reason we were so low in comparison. If it was long aimless clearances and unsuccessful attempts I'm sure we would be double the nearest.

Also it is 35 yards and above for a long pass which could be the keeper kicking it to a midfielder in his own half still. There is a lot that can be used to pick apart the stats, I just linked to them to stop Mr-Villa from being Mr R-C.

Not a Lambert fan, but then we don't always get what we want. Too much like Martin for me. I hope to be proved wrong.

How did Norwich play in the Championship?

Clearly extremely well as they won an awful lot of matches.

I don't know but they did score 80 odd goals in both the champ and the previous season when he first took over (just after his team knocked 7 past them). So he can get goals from his team. TBH Darren Bent fit and form from N'Zog and we will be a darn sight better team anyway. Who played Left side for Norwich as most of their attacking play seemed to be down that side?

Well quite. But forgive me if I would like to see some decent football at home, something we have been starved of for a while. My hopes are that as he did all his badges in Germany that he is a different beast to O'Neill and acknowledges there is a world beyond these shores.

Lambert would be good, but why are we not going for Laudrup?
