If it is Lambert i'll be satisfied but not thrilled. For some reason, and before you ask I can't explain why, i'm not convinced by him.

That's how I feel. Maybe I'd had my hopes raised we might have an exciting appointment that would finally see our football move into the 21st century.
Satisfied in that we'll probably start winning a few games and being a bit more positive, but I'd love to see a truly stylish and inventive Villa side one day.

Well Lambert coming is not going to get me excited, just MON mark 2 for me.  Another example of RL and PF not getting their man i'm afraid.  Nothing vibrant there and not that young either.  Lambert plays a fair bit of direct football too.  As for Grant Holt, if that is the best Lambert can come up with then he needn't bother coming.  We have just got rid of one 30+ striker we dont want or need another thanks.  Don't forget his team were one of the few we managed to beat last season, the late goal from Holt flattered them that day at VP.

Oh dear another opportunity missed can't see his appointment making any difference to crowds next season either.  I hope he comes for talks and decides its not for him I really do.

Given that he's the favourite in every poll I'd say he's exactly the man they want and will do a lot to increase crowds.

Given that PF said they were looking for "young and vibrant" in what way does Lambert fulfill either of these criteria?

He's 42 and got two successive promotions.

The fact that he is young. And the fact that he has just achieved back-to-back promotions and taken a team expecting to be relegated to their highest finish in two decades. Despite spending a fraction of the money available to most other teams in the division.

He quite clearly meets both criteria in full.

Quite - he's of the 'new' school rather than the #'old' , whence TSM came.

He said vibrant. Taking a club you have just thrashed to back to back promotions and then comfortably keeping them in the PL within 3 seasons is a sign of someone quite vibrant to me. If we had been told it was Lambert the day AM was sacked there would have been jubilation on here! You only had to look at the supporters reaction at Carrow Road on the last day to know that.

I might put a tenner on Gary Waddock being our manager within 10 years. We do seem to like people who have Wycombe on their CV.

I've just realised, he'd be our first manager younger than me.

On that basis, he can fuck right off.

We will agree to disagree on both of those dfinitions of young and vibrant then Dave

Thanks for that link

this...

But the path to appoint the Norwich boss was undoubtedly made easier after Villa made it clear, as outlined in Sportsmail yesterday, that Martinez had lost ground in  the race when he was interviewed by Liverpool owner John W Henry last week.

What sort of BS is this?  The man is in demand because he coaches football - not longball - that Liverpool wanted him should be a plus in my book - but I have the awful feeling that Faulkner/Lerner haven't even invited him for an Ole style 'chat' - and old uncle Dave is railroading the kid with his pronouncements.

Put your hurt feelings where the sun don't shine and at least get him over and show him the project before you listen to the 'people's' choice.  Sod us - if we knew anything at all we wouldn't be slaving away to make ends meet or indeed wasting energy on message-boards.

If you're happy with 8th to 12th and 'direct' football - you are on the right track - if you want vibrancy and a footballing philosophy I fear you are not.

I could of course be completely wrong - as Norwich did win something last season - they're top of the league for long balls.

Just out of interest, Grant Holt has just retweeted a link about PL moving here. A very odd thing to do. Maybe that explains his transfer request?

Will Lambert be happy that he is only first choice target after we have been rejected by OGS, Martinez and waited til Rodgers has made his choice.
If I was him I wouldn't be convinced.

I may be on my own here but I like Holt, I think he caused us massive problems at their place, he's handy in the box, let's face it Agbonlahor has hardly pulled up any trees and he'd be a good option on the bench

I wasn't aware we had already offered 3 people the job.
