I heard a rumour that RM's people contacted RL yesterday, after he got wind that LFC were going with Rodgers, to see if we wanted to talk and RL said they were looking at other options. Hence the 'announcement' from RM today.

If that was true , would tell me Villa did not want him after being second best and that is why he is staying at wigan.

I won't panic yet however I will say this, we've either got an ace up our sleeve or were fucked, I hope its not the former

Are you sure about that? I think 'latter' is the word you're looking for! Lol.

Well, according to the press, it's now a straight choice between Paul Lambert and Mystery Manager.

That'd make an interesting poll!  ;D

I bet Scobby and Shaggy will find out who he is  ;)

No they won't, but the dog in Scooby Doo will ...

Velma isn't it?  ;D

Is he definitely staying at Wigan then?

From http://www1.skysports.com/football/news/11095/7787373/?

Dave Whelan has told Sky Sports News that Roberto Martinez has committed his future to Wigan Athletic.

Martinez has been locked in talks with Liverpool for the past few weeks - but Swansea's Brendan Rodgers is now on course to take charge at Anfield.

Martinez flew into Jersey on Wednesday to hold talks with Whelan and he told Sky Sports that his manager was staying put.

He had also again been linked to the vacancy at Aston Villa, which he turned down last year, but he has no intentions of speaking to anyone else.

Whelan also claimed that Martinez had 'grave reservations' about working under a potential director of football at Liverpool.

Whelan also confirmed that there will be no need to talk terms with Martinez.

"There will be no adjustment to his current deal," Whelan told Sky Sports NewsHD.

"He moves into second year of the deal previously agreed."

He also promised that Martinez would be backed in the transfer market, insisting that 'at least three or more players' would be brought in.

I still want OGS  :'(    We never get our first choice, just left with sloppy seconds!

That's if you assume we made a direct offer, or even interviewed him, which we didn't.

Who knows about the offer, but we definitely interviewed him.

Precisely, but your original post says you hope 'it's not the former' meaning you hope that we don't have an ace up our sleeve!

Not to worry though, was just joking about!

Whoever it may be I just hope we get a little more optimistic and excited than the Liverpool fans on the radio. A lot not liking the Rogers appointment at all.

Well I do hope this means Whelan now keeps his over-inflated opinions to himself until next summer when all of those 'massive clubs' yet again fail to bang down his door.  Martinez isn't going to get too many more opportunities to manage a big club by keeping Wigan in the premier league.
