Somebody on VillaTalk seems confident it is Lambert.

Yeah, the guy Richard is very sure, and by all means he's not one to bullshit or risk ridicule usually.

I hope to God he's wrong, because I believe Lambert represents nothing but yet more conservativism, pragmatism and a determination to keep the club firmly rooted in its 20th Century, water-treading comfort zone. I'm starting to worry though.
He is Junior O'Neill...

Worse, he's junior Hitzfeld.

Just out of curiosity, why are you so against Lambert?

Because there is nothing whatsoever in his make-up to suggest that he represents anything other than dyed-in-the-wool pragmatism. This is a big chance for the club to move into the 21st Century, maybe the last chance for a while to do something a little different and try to get ahead. Lambert would be nothing but a conservative, water-treading choice.

The statistics don't lie. Norwich played more long-balls per game than anyone else last season, and the eighth-fewest short passes. A huge amount of their goals from open play came from crosses, secondly from breakaways, and played fewer through-balls than Stoke and Wolves. Lambert's main influences, self-described, are MON and Hitzfeld - neither of whom are proponents of the aesthetic, both of whom always favoured physicality over skill, and counter-attacking to dominating games. Lambert's style of play has a glass ceiling which £200m couldn't break. His appointment would represent a huge chance missed - again - by the board.

agree fully with everything Monty has said,
if we do take on Lambert, he will not be a disaster, i think he will be a good manager, i think he's better than MON, probably more like Moyes, and thats the problem, what Moyes has done for Everton over the last 10 years i feel Lambert will do for Villa,
now there will be a lot of fans welcoming that, but lets face it there is not a lot to shout about at Goodison for a while, and the cupboard is still bare

so although i will be a bit dissapointed, as i wanted someone who plays the game with more excitment, and maybe takes a few more risks, Lambert is definitely a step up and someone we can all get behind

What makes anyone think we are suddenly going to play nice attractive footy whoever the manager is?  Have we firstly got the playing staff?  I dont think we have to be honest.

Stephen Ireland, Charles N'Zogbia, Barry Bannan, Marc Albrighton, Jean Makoun and all the kids couldn't play 'nice stuff' given the right manager?

Out of the 5 names mentioned only 2 can probably successfully play nice stuff - Ireland and Makoun.  cant comment onthe "kids" as they are not ready for first team football hence why I said earlier, it will take another season or so for the fancy football to kick in.

Rodgers will struggle at Liverpool. Their fans will demand the title, it is too big a leap for someone so inexperienced at this level. He needed a inbetween club, like Villa first in order to be able to gain the experience he will need. I do however, wish hm all the best.
Not sure I agree with your description of our club as an inbetween. Liverpool are in the shit, they have lost the experiance of how they use to recruit their managers. There is no Liverpool way anymore, and the gap between us and them is not as big as it was. So to describe us as in between is wrong. To be fair as a club we are as good as anyone for a young inspiring manager to join, develop and stay longterm where he can make his own mark.

BBC News saying that Liverpoo will NOT appoint a DoF over Rodgers! Interesting.

It also begs, maybe, another question.....

Martinez (back) to Swansea?

Liverpool are a bigger club with higher expectations, and yes, they are in the shit.

Financially Liverpool have outmuscled us over the past 18 months/2 yrs.  Ok they got £50m for Torres, but they must have spent at least double that on Adam, Downing, Henderson, Carroll, Enrique and  Suarez.  I think the gap between them and us is bigger now than it was 2 years ago, but not as much as it should have been given what they have spent, largely because the players they signed were not good enough or have not performed as well as expected.

I'm still expecting our third, mystery managerial target to be the Aston Villa Boss.
