Looks like Rodgers is now talking to Liverpool, Lets hope for an OGS u-turn then...

Not according to Swansea he's not!

http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/18235961

No quotes there, Swansea only confirmed this afternoon that they'd received 'no further contact' from Liverpool. I'll write that off to BBC speculation. They've been doing the same on R5 tonight based purely on the bookies odds! Just lazy. Who does Whelan think he is giving them a deadline? What a twat!

You may well be right, but I cant help but think that if there is something in this, it might get the managerial merry go round turning again.

For that reason, I want them to take their time.

Far better that we leave it until late June (or even August)  rather than a rushed appointment just for the sake of it.

Chances are, if the manager they're after is currently attached, it's not as easy as clicking their fingers and saying 'want that one.'   Most contracts run from June>June. Waiting a few weeks might mean the difference between needing to pay compo for 3 years or paying compo for 2.  Or there might be a stipulation that the manager they're after has a small window before his current contact renews when he can talk to other sides.

Waiting until August would be stupid as a lot of hard work needs to be done before we even contemplate another game of football!

Aye,  but in a lesser of two evils scenario, I could wear that sort of wait.  Rather than a shit early appointment that effectively writes off the season (as per last year).

But you effectively write off half the season by not appointing a manager until end of August because you dont allow time for transfers, which we need as badly as a manager right now.

Maybe I'm not making my point clear enough, so apologies.

I don't want  us to wait until late August at all.

But -if it's a straight choice out of having to wait until that date for a good manager (and I'm not saying we will have to)  or getting a McLeish/ McCarthy style appointment nice and early, just to fulfil the objective of not keeping some of our more impatient lot waiting, I'll take the wait everytime.

All our players are on holiday at the mo anyway,so what difference does a couple of weeks make?

The players will be away for ages but running a football club is more than just training the players you've currently got (although that seemed to be beyond TSM!).
There will be no new manager into our club until mid July in my view. Let it all settle down for a while and then make a decision.

No, I fully understand your point, and to a certain extent agree. I know you dont want us to wait until late August like everyone.

But I think the club has to balance waiting for right manager against the amount of time required to make a meaningful difference before the season begins.

I would be very surprised if we are still managerless by the weekend.
Based on what exactly ?
I'm still very concerned that Faulkner is a big part it appears of the selection process

He's giving Martinez a deadline more than anything and i agree with him on that, he'll want it sorted asap so he can start looking for a new manager himself.

Fair enough Clampy, I just think Whelan is a self-promoting twit who can't resist the sound of his own voice or reading his own quotes in the press. He comes out with a different deadline every other hour and is a deluded fool if he thinks that anyone will pay attention to it, even when he claims all of the credit for what he has no idea will happen! Oooooh, do I NOT like Whelan!

Maybe, just maybe Martinez is boxing clever - he virtually has a job for life at Wigan with no wild expectations. Whelan likes him and wants him to stay but recognises that he is in demand . Martinez courts the prospective clubs and then reaffirms his love of Wigan and gets another pay rise. Seems a good strategy to me - ok he may lack ambition but hey, why put yourself under pressure and stress at the likes of Anfield or Villa Park if you can earn millions keeping Wigan in the top flight each season.

Until they get relegated. Which will happen sooner rather than later.

eastie, Im not picking a fight or having a go, but last week you seemed 'surprised' that we hadnt called a press conference on the Tuesday morning regarding OGS, and as it turned out, it couldnt have been further from the truth.

So based on past experience, I am willing to bet that, when Saturday comes... you will be surprised!

Which has been said the last few seasons but he just seems to do enough.

I think they went for OGS, thinking he would come, but have no 2nd option lined up.

The was an episode in Dad's Army in which Captain Mainwaring's younger brother turned up.   He was a buffoon and a loudmouth.   I cannot get the idea out of my head that Whelan is the reprobate younger brother of Doug Ellis.
