For that reason, I want them to take their time.

Far better that we leave it until late June (or even August)  rather than a rushed appointment just for the sake of it.

Chances are, if the manager they're after is currently attached, it's not as easy as clicking their fingers and saying 'want that one.'   Most contracts run from June>June. Waiting a few weeks might mean the difference between needing to pay compo for 3 years or paying compo for 2.  Or there might be a stipulation that the manager they're after has a small window before his current contact renews when he can talk to other sides.

Waiting until August would be stupid as a lot of hard work needs to be done before we even contemplate another game of football!

Aye,  but in a lesser of two evils scenario, I could wear that sort of wait.  Rather than a shit early appointment that effectively writes off the season (as per last year).

But you effectively write off half the season by not appointing a manager until end of August because you dont allow time for transfers, which we need as badly as a manager right now.

It's not going to be Kmac, if it was he'd have been hired already. He'd be a shocking appointment, we need someone to come in and completely change the club. We don't need someone from within the club. I'm beginning to think it's more likely to be a manager from outside the UK, just because the media normally are pretty clued up on what is happening within England but when it comes to other countries they are less so.

Quite right, needs to be done now(ish) so that the backroom can be organised and new players brought in before pre-season. That's pretty crucial I think, considering that we are three players down on a very light squad already!

I don't think compensation payments get rounded up to the next full year!

The sooner we can get someone in the better.  The club's effectively in limbo at the moment with no one running the football side of things.  It's not like we've got a DOF who can carry on with scouting, etc.  The football team is completely rudderless at the moment and we need a manager in to start moulding the team the way he wants it.

The players will be away for ages but running a football club is more than just training the players you've currently got (although that seemed to be beyond TSM!).

Part of me says "chill out, early days yet, see how things pan out and just enjoy the nice weather instead of worrying about this shit, just trust them to get it right".

Then another part of me screams "ARE YOU FUCKING INSANE? THESE ARE THE SAME PEOPLE WHO THOUGHT ALEX MCLEISH WAS A GOOD APPOINTMENT".

Conflicted.

Last summer, had Faulkner said "We want to find someone to reinvigorate the club. We want someone to bring some vibrancy back to Villa. That's what we need and that's what we're going to get", and then hired McWaste then I'd be shitting myself over this appointment.

This year it's different which is why I'd be stunned if the new bloke is over 45 and doesn't advocate a more pleasing (to the eye) brand of football. Any remaining credibility, the very thing they are trying to restore with a disenchanted fan base, would be shot to pieces.

Yes but look at what they said about McLeish last summer.

In fact, only last week, I heard Faulkner defending the appointment, citing AM having a great record (seriously) and saying "it's easy to say it was a bad appointment with hindsight".

After last year I wouldn't put anything past this lot.

I'd like to think that because they went for someone like OGS, that's the kind of direction they're still looking in. There is that worry that they went from wanting Martinez to appointing Mcleish last year but i can't see them making the same mistake twice. They'll need a positive appointment this time round and i think and hope they realise this.

No quotes there, Swansea only confirmed this afternoon that they'd received 'no further contact' from Liverpool. I'll write that off to BBC speculation. They've been doing the same on R5 tonight based purely on the bookies odds! Just lazy. Who does Whelan think he is giving them a deadline? What a twat!

He's giving Martinez a deadline more than anything and i agree with him on that, he'll want it sorted asap so he can start looking for a new manager himself.
