That's also how I see it. There is a real danger that what fans had to endure last season might get the board thinking that we will greet with open arms anybody who isn't TSM.

I think fans will give lots of time to whoever is appointed, and whoever it is will probably have a united fan-base of well wishers behind him. That said, names like Southgate, Grayson, Hoddle (McCarthy!) would certainly be a let down after the initial Paul Faulkner statement and the OGS saga.

I'm still hopeful it'll be Lambert/Martinez/ Poyet/exciting left field suggestion. I'd love it to be AVB but can't see it unless we have shed loads of money to invest.

is AVB's stock so high now that he can command 'shed loads' of money wherever he goes into his next job.

in my view he was a bit humiliated at Chelsea and by Chelsea, but you cant say they did the wrong thing by the outcome being dual cup winners and one of them being 'ole big ed' for the first time.

he needs to go somewhere he can rebuild his battered reputation,
i think the fit of him and Villa is a good one, but not just for Villa that we get a young hopefully dynamic fella who plays attractive football, but that we offer AVB a chance to start again on his 'Project' without the added pressure of Abromavich's money,

he would get pretty much the control he would want and facilities and working conditions every bit as good as Chelsea, also the patience to make enevitable mistakes that he wasnt given time to put right at Chelsea
its Win - Win as far s i can see

if he has been approached and is waiting for something bigger with more money to spend, i reckon he has made a big mistake, he's not that good yet, he has a lot to prove and Villa could be the best place to do it

i dont think it will happen as if it was on the cards it could have been wrapped up by now

Southgate an improvement on McLeish?

Didnt he get boro relegated in his last season after spending a fair amount, not good condidering he took over a team who had just reached a european final- southgate as a manager was a flop!

Lerner cant be dumb enough to think this could aplease the fans because he was the captain of us once .

I can't see it being Southgate. In an interview i heard Paul Faulkner do with Pat Murphy just after Mcleish went, he said amongst other things that relegation was too close a call this time round so i'd be surprised if we went for another manager who's taken a team down.

What are you babbling on about ? Sky have widely reported that randy has flown back today, are you saying he hasnt? Nothing itk about that in the slightest.

The fingers and pies comment was very much made in jest ,although i do hear things from various people ,media, twitter accounts, etc as do most of us.

Southgate strikes me as someone who needs a D.O.F above him, or he'd be a number 2 to a more established manager. Left to his own device I just don't think he's good enough, as proven at Boro. I like Southgate, but no way do I want him managing Villa. As a defensive coach? I'll have him back.

Seems to be well in the fold with the fa and has a good job with them besides his tv work, cant really see him being in the picture.

He did a poor job at boro taking a team whod just reached a european final to relegation in his short spell as boss.

i'd rather have Southgate than RDM or Benitez,
which is crazy as they are both Euro cup winners and Southgate is not.

i dont want Southgate he would be a bit of a let down in the excitment stakes, but i would still prefer someone to come in and build a legacy rather than someone who's legacy is already behind them
