I initially dismissed AVB as a highly unlikely candidate, but with each day that passes I can't help thinking it gets more and more likely.

I never dismissed him and thought he fits every criteria set or supposedly set. I've no idea if we've sounded him out or not but think it would be daft not to.

The fact AVB has applied for the Anderlecht job makes him obtainable for me. I think we could definately get him if our 'project' is right.

The stand out candidate of the names being banded about is Rafa
Get him in, get it done

All the Liverpool fans I know want Rafa back and gutted it could be RM and maybe If he was going to be Villas manager , that would tell me he would have some funds to spend .  He won't be able to waste it as much like at 'The Mighty Reds YNWA' .  Still not sure I want him thou

If AVB is in the frame I'd be very happy with that. Chelsea wasn't the right club for him. He needs to be given time to build an ethos and a long term strategy. He'll want to make his own team. He won't find a better opportunity to do that in a big league than with us.

He applied for Anderlecht?  I hadn't heard that!

I think we'll need to provide him with cash do build up the squad as he wants, but if that money is available I agree we'd be daft not to be considering him.

Solskjær gave the sequence of events as talking with his family, deciding it wasn't for him, telling Randy such on Tuesday morning, then going to meet Rokke to see if they could continue at Molde (by all accounts, Solskjær would like to remain managing Molde if he's not leaving Kristiansund). Rokke presumably couldn't believe his luck and agreed.

Now, I'm not saying we should take everything everyone says at face value. In this case, however, there seems very little reason to doubt him. His previous comments leaked to the press - by Rokke, as it happens - were that he would take the Villa job if offered, and that was well after he fully understood that it was an interview process. I think, other than his family considerations, he would have jumped at any offer from us. I've often criticised the board for the way they've gone about their business, but everyone seems a bit guiltless here. Looking for fires where there is no smoke is not a productive activity. Let's move on.

His personal circumstances/ family upheaval would have been another reason to iron out as many of the details before the jet went over.  Had the negotiations gone on for a number of weeks the family would have had ample opportunity to get their head around it (or not, as the case might be).

As it is, we now have a situation where two relatively inexperienced managers in two years have been seen to publicly turn us down (or wish to not be considered amongst the other candidates even before an offer is made, still a rejection of US, if not specifically a rejection of a job offer).

Personally, in the case of OGS, I'm not particularly distraught.  The thinking behind it smacked to me of what Sunderland tried to do with Roy Keane, or Boro did with Brian Robson, namely a failing/ unfashionable club trying to boost their profile by appointing a well known player.    I accept I might be in the minority on that one, as the link did seem to capture the imagination of many around here.

I think we should definitely be in for AVB and I think he'd be another who would unite the fanbase and would be a terrific appointment.

It's going to be be Di Matteo.  If it's not him I'll eat my shorts.

If it IS Di Matteo I'll eat my shorts! John Terry was manager at Chelski, and RDM's record in the PL for the Boggies was woeful

I think he's right up there unfortunately. He won't get the Chelsea job and it feels like we are just biding our time. I've no evidence for this, just a gut feeling.

I don't doubt that, but we would still have been turned down - for family reasons.

We have no idea as to the sequence of events, other than what OGS says, which is that his first contact with Lerner was when he agreed to be flown over. It must have all happened very quickly and then, not by our doing, publicly. It was a similar situation last year, where Wheel-him-out-for-a-quote told the press were we speaking to Martinez, not us.

We've been turned down by two managers where our interest shouldn't have made it to press, and both times it wasn't our doing - but maybe we were also turned down by other inexperienced and experienced managers in confidence, where the press didn't get wind of it. Maybe we passed over candidates many on here would have gone for over McLeish. The point is, we cannot know, so speculation is utterly futile.

Which is almost word for word what his agent said yesterday in the press.

Also if Chelsea thought he was any good ,especially after winning 2 cups they would keep him. Doesnt bode well  :-\

I think of all the candidates I LIKE AVB the most as it fits the ethos of building something over time.

Is anyone else concerned though that they just find it 'neat' that his name incorporates or club name and that his initials would work so well ? Is it just this ?

Chelsea want Guardiola, hence the delay in moving RDM out.  As soon as they do he'll be facing the cameras at B6 before you know it.

I get more of a feeling it will be RDM rather than AVB or RM.  Poyet would be my outside bet and Grayson my least favourite.
