Martinez will come to us only a second option if he does not get the scouse job, and if indeed he parts company with Wigan. Benitez is cheap cos he has no baggage. Southgate will have to give up his lucrative TV work. and I'd rather hear his in depth analysis of others failures rather than be elaborating on his own shortcomings. Hoddle, dear God!?
That leaves Lambert who has done a good job of work, and can do better with us,  unless he decides to stay with the Cannaries; and Benitez as very good second choice. The others can take a short walk.
Lambert or Benitez imo. I'd be happy with either!

Benitez is cheap? And no baggage? Unless it isn't Rafa Benitez you're referring to. The Benitez I'm referring to walks around with the tagline, "I won't be cheap and I have an airline's worth of baggage, please hire me" after his name.

If it's true that Swansea have had a bid accepted for the Icelandic midfielder, I can't see Rodgers going anywhere.

Sorry, not attempting the spelling.

Be interesting to gauge the reaction if Martinez arrives. Most people were underwhelmed when we approached him last summer, then he turned us down, but a lot of things have happened since last summer.

I suppose he fits in the "doesn't look a bad punt when you've got no money" catagory along with Rodgers and Lambert, and with our board it would be a relief to get someone reasonably steady-looking in place.

Never put this on before as I was asked not to ......... but it is a year on.

From someone ITK, as you know Martinez has heavy connections with Walsall area and friends.

Martinez said "Yes" last year ................... Whelan scuppered it with the compo demands which were too heavy for a young manager.

The "turning us down" story was a concoction to protect reputations.

I might have to take this off if I get a bollocking phone call, put it like that.

According to Blabbermouth in a Grauniad article, Martinez is talking to Liverpool again tomorrow. I think the hitch there may be whether Liverpool are planning to replace Commoli with another DoF - if so I don't think Martinez will take the job as he seems to like total control. Hence the press conference tomorrow. If he doesn't take the Liverpool job I'd love to see him at Villa, although the Mirror (I know, complete with no quotes) reckon Whelan will give him whatever he wants to keep him at Wigan

Whelan won't give him anything but a nice send off and some thanks for the millions in compensation he's just snaffled. Then he'll appoint some promising Championship manager.

So, who do we think we can rule out so far?

OGS
Martinez (press conference at Wigan's ground strongly suggests he's staying)
Lambert (we've not made contact, so unlikely to do so this late in the game)
Rodgers (turned down talks with Liverpool, so would do the sane with us)

If the above is right and considering the criteria we think they're using, I'd say that leaves Poyet, AVB or another overseas condidate we're unaware of right now.

think thats a decent assesment. Of course he could have interviewed any number of unemployed guys without it appearing on the radar. if we'd approached poyet i reckon we'd know by now.

I think the only ones definitely out of the frame are OGS, who has ruled himself out, and Rodgers who looks like staying at Swansea.  I still think everything hinges on the Martinez/Liverpool situation - if Martinez doesn't take the Liverpool job I think we'll go in for him, if he does take the job I think we'll try for Lambert or other people such as Poyet. I just feel that Martinez was one of the leading 'other candidates' in the running when we talked to OGS

I think RL and PF are this time looking outside UK, which is a good thing imo.

OGS wanted the job. He said he had a release clause in his contract for move to PL. He said if an offer was made he would accept. He named other people, players and coaches, he would bring with him. His trusted friends said that he was on his way. However Randy and Co were outwitted by a Nowegian version of Sullivan and Gold. A fiasco IMO.

Hindsight being 20/20 vision and all that, but I definitely think it could have been handled better.

Imagine how easy that conversation was for Rokke:  "So they have left you to face this shitstorm at home, with questions from the media every five minutes about your future and they haven't even offered you the job?   You are just one of a number of candidates?   Doesn't sound like they are serious.  Here's a new salary at x amount per annum, and here's some extra cash for our CL campaign."

Clearly by now we have done a deal with Norwich and Lambert is on his way. I  don't see why we are keeping it a secret?

OK..He lives in UK, the Wirral I believe, and there is no compo to pay; ergo cheap! I do not mean he will be inexpensive!
