Unlikely. We know the sort of people they're looking for from the aborted OGS fiasco. Family reasons or not, if Lerner had gone in there with the sort of spending budget he gave MON or even Houllier then he'd have been here now.

Sorry, but how exactly was it a 'fiasco'??

the fact that we did it in the full glare of the press rather than OTR. That's not particulary the clubs fault  but it would be nice if we started tapping up people like the other 99% of clubs so we know their answer before we approach their club.
So what should they have done differently? Camouflaged his plane? Shut down Villa message-boards?
Greg's right it was a fiasco. What was all that about sending the private jet over to get him here? Surely negotiations  could have carried on in secret and than get him here on the private jet by all means to sign on the dotted line.

We asked someone to speak to us, and made it easier for them to do so. Both parties decided they didn't want to take these discussions further. By no stretch of the imagination, even whatever passes for Greg's imagination, could that be described as a fiasco.

I think the major sponser threatening to pull out the club if he left is pretty much of a fiasco even if we weren't at fault. The whole thing was about as messy as you can get. In fact show me discussions with a manager that have gone worse?

I think another episode of Greg's Comedy Gold could be starting. We talk to a potential manager, don't offer him the job, he says he doesn't want it anyway and that's the worst managerial discussions ever?

I think some of you  don't make any effort to understand what Greg is actually saying.

Crap...I said I wasn't  going to comment on this  again today.

For someone who didn't want the job, and which we didn't offer it to, its a pretty impressive fuss. God knows what would have happened if he had wanted the job.

He would have got it.

It's a wild stab in the dark, but maybe he'd have said he wanted it. At which point, if we wanted him to have it, we would have talked to him again.

well lets hope the next club we approach aren't threatened with bankruptcy for the sake of a few informal discussions. Maybe, hopefully, the next guy we go for we actually want as manager and he wants to join as well....

We approached a manager for talks, he talks to us, he then tells us he wants to take it no further. Hardly what i'd call a fiasco.

I've said before; it's hard to say without knowing the parameters of the job. As it seems to stand I'd go for Martinez or Poyet.

It seems some posters have had a bit too much sun this weekend.... calm down lads, were all on the same side here.

Back to topic, if it is going to happen this week, who will it be, and on which day??

AVB on Friday is my guess.

No basis or evidence for this just a bit of fun.

Alan Curbishley on 6th June just to ruin my birthday.

Most of the fuss has been from the fans and the press. And for someone who didn't want him, you are making more of a fuss then most.

I think Martinez would be perfect. I mean he's got a rubbish team playing above themselves, has a decent record with developing players (Moses) and is not afraid to have a go against the 'elite' clubs. He's put himself into a position where he's ready for step up. I'd be more than happy given the other candidates out there and seems to fit the bill set out by the board, is passionate and has a very positive attitude.

He is also used to working with little or no money, should make him perfect for us. Suits Lerner perfectly!

My main problem with Murphy is he thinks MON is some sort of genius which sort of sums up his football knowledge really.

There are an awful lot of people in football who think highly of O'Neill: players, former players, managers, former managers...some of them must know something about football?

Admittedly, most have probably been to a game or two in the last ten years so they wouldn't have your insights.
