surely if it was Lambert we wanted (i dont BTW) we would have got him by now,

niether Chelsea or Liverpool seem to be interested, so we would be the only one knocking at the door, an approach may well have been made of coarse, but from all accounts we havent even been in touch with him

like Risso says, i think things will get clearer when 'The Mighty Reds YNWA' and Chelsea decide what they are doing, dominoe effect and all that

I've defended us in the past when non-Villa supporting mates have digs at us by saying no manager is ever good enough for Villa fans. Then I see on here how everyone turns their nose up at a manger who's won La Liga twice, the Champions League and FA cup, even saying McLeish would be better, and I wonder if they have a point.

Everyone? Maybe I'm missing something here, but to me it looked like one poster, who was quickly ridiculed, too.

I don't fancy Benitez as our next manager, but that's not to say 'no manager is good enough', I got caught up with the idea of a young, hungry manager with some longevity hence why OGS was such an exciting prospect.  I still think Martinez, Lambert or Rodgers are more exciting prospects than Benitez but that's just my opinion.

I see that, but Benitez is just 50 or so (no older than TSM) and has still managed to win loads of trophies. His final year at 'The Mighty Reds YNWA' and his spell at Inter (which wasn't that bad anyway) are spots on an otherwise impressive CV.

OGS, Martinez, Lambert and Rodgers are promising managers, but nothing more. Benitez is a proven winner.

In terms of competence and experience he is (by far) the best manager we can realistically hope to get. The question marks are over his temperament and whether he is the right fit for us in the state we are in at the moment.

At this point, even Sir Tom Jones (The Voice tm) would get my vote.

I just don't want The Villa to settle for mediocrity.

The problem with Benitez, apart from the Liverpool obsession, is that one year on its doubtful that we suddenly have the budget to match his spending desires.

I really can't decide now, I was really optimistic for OGS for as much reason as I don't particularly want any of the others we've been linked too.

Lambert for me is the best option but even he, for me, would be progression on the same path we've been on for most of randy's time at the club.  My misgivings with that are that I see this summer as our best opportunity for a change in philosophy, money will have to be spent, the youngsters are a big part of the squad and a fair few of the overpaid under-performing 'seniors' have gone.

Still holding out hope for a Rangnick or Loew to come from nowhere and be announced.

In Norway there is a big break next Tuesday after the next couple of games. It still would not shock me if a Ron like turn around happened, and we are simply waiting it out for some reason.

With only 7 days left to purchase season tickets at the frozen price a bloody good managerial appointment in the next couple of days could see a surge in season ticket sales.

Benetiz wouldn't come here in a million years. His ego is too big. In his mind he'd be above this club, unless we said we'd give him 100 mill to spend. I don't rate him but given his CV I'd live in hope he could recapture some of his past glory AND...he's a huge step up from McLeish, and much as Houllier might disagree, the one before him. There's no chance. He'll be looking at top 5 clubs in England, Spain or Italy.

Ironically I was thinking about BFR's u-turn with reference to OGS today, obviously wishful thinking tho'.
