Well the theory with Martinez is he plays stylish passing football with crap players and that given better players to work with he won't be at the bottom.
That logic was applied to TSM when he came in: "he was crap at the Sty but he had limited resources; with our squad we can't possibly be that bad."

I'm really in two minds about Martinez; I actually think Rodgers would be a better bet (but I guess his new contract takes hm out of the equation).

I though the theory with Mcleish was a return to MON's style and the players who couldn't play under Houllier would flourish under Hoof Mk2. Not sure anyone was expecting better football (apart from the board maybe)

And, apparently, The Scottish Manager himself, who promised exciting attacking football and vehemently denied he was defensive and negative whenever he got the chance.

I am in the "yes to Martinez" camp...

To those in the "no to Martinez" camp I want to clear something up... you state you cannot understand how "we" can like Martinez as he only won had a good run his last few games....

His last few games are not why we like him - actually they are a bonus...

Last year when we where linked I actually wanted Martinez then, I went away to wigan the houiller season and even though the wigan team was rubbish they had an air of creativity around them that felt like they could score at any moment.  Nzogbia and Rodallega seemed to link up really well and I remember really admired that as quality in a team, something we seemed to be missing...

I have always liked the way that with no money in small clubs Martinez still trys to play football and is able to create that feeling in the air a goal could come at any moment no matter how bad we are...

He did this with Wigan, a really really really bad team, who every year have been tipped for going down but stay up! They will go down this year if martinez leaves to I believe...

As reports have shown we are the 5th most successful team in the premiership with great support, More Money than most, a higher wage bill that mot and one of the best youth teams in the country, not to mention one of the highest potential squads in the country!

Using words from the richard keys vocabulary...

If Martinez can do it with Wigan, I believe he will SMASH IT with villa!

Edited *** Called Rodallega - Rodriguez!!! ha

I think Martinez will definitely look to move as he is already losing Diame and Rodallega whose contracts have run down. Unless DW backs him financially he must be well aware that they will struggle again. Whilst his stock is high he needs to move. Out of the names being banded around I would be happy with him but a combo of Poyet backed by Steve Clark could be a winner (if under consideration..).

Would like a manager who wears a suit as a tracksuit manager just reminds me on MoN.

There is nothing wrong with Martinez, he's got shit players to work with at Wigan, He plays good football, just think what he can do with a chairman that backs him :)

His current chairman has backed him.

Strange kind of backing, taking away your best players and not replacing him.  The only backing Whelan has given to Martinez is as his very vocal agent.

McAllister won't get it. The players he fell out with and slagged him off in various interviews last season are still here and going nowhere

thats the big problem , it was said on the radio yesterday , the older players did not want to know , it was you and us and leave us alone ( the MON crew)    , where the young players really wanted to learn from the management team.

Whatever happens - I hope the board will take my old mum's wise words into consideration when choosing the new messiah.  Never trust a man whose head is bigger than a football.

Hopefully that will rule out the following

Mr Potato Head

Mr Look How Big My Head is Head

Mr John Prescott Head

Avoid these and we are on the right track.

Not sure of martinez is tough enough to sort out the dressing room and get rid of the likes of collins, dunne , warnock? Does he have that ruthless steely edge to him?

Im not against him by any means but a bit worried the plsyerd may see him as a bit of a nice guy soft touch manager, his teams try to play decent football no doubt about that and he does have an eye for a bargain.

Martinez never got Wigan as high in the Premier League as Bruce or Jewell did...

Well as long as there are no shorts like Coyle - your playing career is over, get used to it...
