Interesting article about the technical/sporting director role in the Guardian.

I think its a shame we ruled this out (or appear to have ruled it out). One of the most obvious problems in the last 3 seasons, and actually during O'Neill's reign, is a lack of continuity - playing style if there was one has been ripped up each year.

It took almost a season to get Houllier's method anything like working (Blackburn at home when Makoun ran the show?), then out he goes, in comes the opposite, frozen out players defrosted etc etc.

The technical director role guards against this, and also against the kind of spending which got Randy/us into trouble. It might be trying to bolt the gate closed when the horse is already happily frolicking around but at least the same thing wouldn't happen again if we appoint a good one.

Last week I read Gabby saying how much the team would like Kevin Mac to get the job, how qualified he is, etc etc.

My immediate thought was that they want their cushy routine affected as little as possible, hence going for the path of least resistance, ie someone who is already there.
I get the feeling that Solskjær will come in with a big broom and see straight through all the prima donnas.

If it's a really big broom he'll need someone to help him hold it.

Yes, the whole place needs a good kick up the arse.
Anybody who wants la dolce vita can do one.

He'll be needing a chair to stand on then, especially with some of the taller lads.

Plus, if he's planning on kicking Richard Dunne's arse, he'll probably wanna go with a run-up...and a spring board.

Is Gus Poyet a verb now? ;)

I Gus Poyet
You Gus Poyet
He/She/It Gus Poyet

Yes.

He/She/It Gus PoyetS

Tsk!

Incorrect. I was merely defining the use of Gus Poyet in the past tense.

Obviously if I was indicating the present tense I would state:

I Gus Poye
You Gus Poye
He/She/It Gus Poyes

The future perfect progressive on the other hand is:

I will have been Gus Poyeting
You will have been Gus Poyeting
He/She/It will have been Gus Poyeting

Remember: i before e except after Dennis Wise.

I hope that clears things up.

He (or whoever else it ends up being) needs to.  McLeish was a poor manager, but he wasn't the only problem at he club by a long way.  There needs to be some very harsh words spoken this summer, and if people don't respond, a big clear out.

Norweigian is a little harsh sounding. But maybe getting a few orcs in will drive the message home.

Seriously though, I can imagine OGS just walking around randomly pointing at players and saying "Nonce"... "Unclefucker"... "Bluenose"... "Scuttering eejit"...

I watched a great Norwegian film recently, Troll Hunter. A couple of trolls brought over would soon sort this bunch of tossers.

I would prefer Lambert, and would be quite excited about the new season with him on board assuming that there are funds available to buy at least three defenders and a ball winner for the midfield (without this whoever takes over will struggle).

If OGS gets the job then hopefully it would go well, but I would be very nervous going into the season with such an unproven manager. I don't know enough about him to form a view on how good he is, whereas Lambert is obviously talented.

Lambert has done very well in England with two clubs now, and has improved every year. He has mainly bought younger players and knows how to get the best from them. He is also tactically sound, and a good motivator.

Not fussed on Martinez.

That's on my 'to see' list.

OGS seems the type of bloke who wont stand any crap, or for being a lazy arse.
I can see him rattling a few cages here and deservedly so.

It's all very well and good getting a 'new broom' Manager in but lets not forget that the Manager will need significant financial backing and moral support from the board.

That means it's not only the like of Dunne and Gabby that need to drastically raise their game - Randy and Faulkner will too because their efforts over the last couple of years has been piss poor.

We need to be invigorated not only on the Park but also in the Boardroom just as much imo.

The new appointment should only be the start.

Also OGS will have one important tool to use against the players that the last 2 managers havent had........the full support and backing of the fan base.

I fully believe that the players have hid in the last 2 regimes, happy to not put their all in as they can blame the manager. This won't happen again.

Quite correct.

Also, if OGS has a figure in mind for what he needs to spend, and he's the sort of bloke who will already have chewed that over no doubt, he'll have raised that in the interview.

He'll get money to spend. I also think he might have a fair idea how to use it too.

I also agree.  Some of the players have hidden behind the manager's unpopularity the last year, they won't have that excuse again if they appoint OGS.

I do get the feeling Randy is willing to spend again.  Probably not excessively, but the new manager will be given some backing.
