For me it's: OGS, Lambert, Rodgers, Martinez in that order.

I'd put Lambert to the back of that list myself, but it's definitely OGS for me.

Yeah, me too. Thought Risso hated Arty Ziff (MON). Lambert has shown he's every bit like him thus far.

In what way?

I have said it before, but take the time to read the Norwich forums.

Yes, because we all know that the greatest football minds are to be found on internet forums  ;)

All good points ozz, and why  -out of Rodgers or Lambert-  I'd have a preference for Rodgers.

His style of football is not only easier on the eye - it's actually more effective too.
Simply put, if the opposition don't have the ball, they can't score.

Up until the New Year, they did have a problem putting the many chances they created away.  But the arrival of Sigurdsson helped to give them more of a cutting edge.  That's a crucial aspect too - it's no good playing Mowbray-esque one touch football in non threatening areas.  It has to have purpose.    Retain possession, yes.  But always with the onus on looking for a gap to exploit. Rather than to me>to you>to me>to you Chuckle brothers style.

Just want to reproduce this so everyone can see it on this page. If the board want Lambert, looking at this then at various MON home games should change their minds.

I have said it before, but take the time to read the Norwich forums.

Buys predominantly British, only comes into training towards the back end of the week, leaves training and tactical training during the week to his coaches, is very aloof with the press, is fairly direct and counter attacking style, happy to concede possession and try and hit direct, hence Norwich had the 4th worst pass completion up to March when I last saw the stats, and often had less of the ball. We have seen that style and it runs out of steam, because it gets worked out. I want something different. The thought of Grant Holt for a lot of money coming in has me in cold sweats. The direction has to change, style, players we target, how we use the ball. We need an end game, and I am not sure Lambert provides it. He certainly can motivate, but getting out of League 1 and the Championship is good, but to do it playing the way Swansea have is much more impressive for me. Also, Norwich finished with a -14 goal difference, showing their defence was not exactly the hoover damn.

I was only kidding mate.  Look I'm not against appointing OGS in any way and he would be a way better appointment than the likes of Steve Bruce or Mick McCarthy.  I just think that some posters are getting carried away a little.  Be honest - if he had coached at Man Utd and then gone up to Scotland and won a title with Rangers or Celtic instead of with Molde, would you have been as enthusiastic about him?

If he'd done it in the same way, ie taken Hearts - because that's more the equivalent than the Old Firm, though outside of Spain they have few equivalents -  to the title with young players playing good football ruthlessly in the right way, then I think other clubs would have got there ahead of us.

Monty - Had he done that at Hearts and we had been linked with him, I could guarantee that these pages would be full of posts saying "it's only Scottish football".  We seem to put far more currency in foreign football in this country and achievements abroad seem to have some extra kudos attached to them.

No way. Winning that league with the Jambos or Hibs, or anyone else other than Celtic/Rangers, would be one of the greatest managerial achievements ever. I think it may even be impossible these days.

Anyway, we're not talking about Scotch football, we're getting off topic :)

I'm sure George Burley threatened to do it with Hearts one year (could well have been the season McLeish finished third with Rangers).  Still would be people saying "it's only Scottish football though".

That was in about 2005, when the Lithuanian mentalist took over. The league has reverted to type after Hearts finished second back then.

If any team was able to wrestle the title from the Old Firm, just one title, it'd be an amazing achievement. I doubt anyone would belittle it, not anyone who appreciates how the game is in Scotland anyway.

In fact, just to add, the last team other than Celtic/Rangers to win the title was Aberdeen in 1985. The last time both finished outside the top 2 was in 1965.

Anyone able to crack that hegemony would have something about them, but again, we're straying from the point; Solskjaer has done well to win Malmo's first title with them, after years of domination from Rosenborg. I have reservations about it when looking at his experience so far, but at the same time I think the club needs a big change in direction and a shot in the arm. I don't mind if the gamble is made, lets give something new a go. Better to try and fail than fear change.

I'd rather face a season with the excitement of the unknown with OGS than settling for a midtable finish with someone like Lambert...the risk is we could be relegated, realistically we should be midtable...but we could be pushing back for European places quite soon.

Not taking anything away from Lambert, but the potential for an exciting long term project fuelled by youth and a good football ethos fits perfectly for how I see Villa developing over the next few years without having to compete financially in the transfer market. I believe that this is how things would pan out with OGS at the helm.

The last one I want is Di Matteo I have to say. He really does seem negative!

Hopefully Ole/ Martinez for me due to the way they play football.

Good post. I think this partly explains the mass hysteria at the prospect of getting OGS in.
