If you can't get excited about the idea then what's the point in following Villa and football in general?

You only get excited by new manager appointments? Blimey, 99% of the time you must be very bored.

looking at the poll above I can't quite believe nearly 75% want a manager with no PL experience(as a manager)

as opposed to 5% that want for e.g, B.R. who has just proven himself a very good PL manager(albeit for only 1 season)

The criterion of 'Premier League experience' was imposed by the board the past two summers and was an unmitigated disaster. There's no logic to it as a selection imperative.

Do you count running the ManUre reserves as EPL experience? - not directly, I agree, but there is a prety close correlation in terms of players, playing-style and overall approach.

I'm stretching the point to say that OGS could fit even the criterion that we found restrictive during the last selection process.

I've heard Dean Saunders is "throwing his hat in the ring".

Lambert would just be a repeat of O'Neill, not entirely a bad thing but you could argue we tried success that way and it didn't work out. Martinez has a worse record at Wigan than Steve Bruce. Di Matteo's time at WBA puts me off, he just lost interest there and could do the same to us. Rodgers is a difficult one to call but it seems he wants to stay at Swansea for now.

Solskjaer seems like a good fit for us because of our academy and reputation for wanting to play attacking football. We've never had a manager with an eye for picking up bargains in Europe and he could be the one to try and bring us success that way. He'd also bring a 'feel good factor' which is important after the year we've had. There are no guarantees of success whoever we appoint but at least he seems like the right type of manager for us right now, even if he lacks a lengthy managerial CV.

None of Alex Ferguson, Arsene Wenger, Jose Mourinho or Roberto Mancini had any PL experience before taking on their multiple title winning jobs. Would you have turned them down on the same principle? Obviously OGS hasn't got the same pedigree yet but then that wasn't your point.

I would be interested in Di Matteo if he becomes available sooner rather than later. He did a decent job at MK Dons and I thought he was unlucky to lose his job at Albion. He has just won the FA cup and Champions League and I would have thought we would be the last set of supporters in the world to knock a manager for digging in to get a win in the final against Bayern.
