Don't rule anybody out. It seems Randy is making yet another pig's ear of it.

I don't get this at all Percy.

Neither do I. I think Randy has played this brilliantly and appears to have got the man he wants with the minimum of fuss.

I don't care who gets upset as long as we get the right man for Villa.

I just think having one target would be very shortsighted of us. We are in a mess at the moment, once that is sorted, I'm all for us being nice again.

As I posted in the OGS thread, I don't think we should be asking several managers to risk damaging their relationships with their current employers, fans and players for a chance at the Villa job.

Hopefully we're not doing so and the stories of interviews with others are bullshit.

I understand what you mean. Isn't that effectively what Rodgers got the hump about with Liverpool? In fact, isn't that exactly what Liverpool have got wrong - their announced intention of interviewing 12 people?

The difference with us is that the only firm thing we know is the Solskjaer thing. we have no idea what they're looking at in terms of other managers, or if they intend to interview anyone else. It is all speculation.

I'm quite prepared to call the board useless tossers when they've been useless (and they have quite frequently of late), but I'm not going to lay into them on the basis of something which is just a load of speculation.

Yes, I was having a giggle at Racist FC's idiotic methods myself. Then we stated we're doing the same.

If we're not, I'm quite happy to go along with your last two paragraphs.

I liked the other Percy who was going to stick it to every one else.

I've been rancidly pissed off all week up on Merseyside, listening to the likes of turtle-face Whelan from piss-pot Wigan having the fucking bare-faced cheek to mention my club in the same sentence as those filty bastards from Smethwick, whilst rimming fellow ex-giant "Liverpool Football Club", and he's not alone.

If we're going to get back to the top, we've got to start fucking everyone, no exceptions.

I don't think there's anything wrong with how we've gone about this. I'm tired of us being a doormat to other teams quite frankly and it's about time we started looking after ourselves. We need to start being more the predators if we are going to make forward steps as opposed to playing the victim all the time. We need to stop feeling sorry for ourselves, make this appointment and start building a side that is going to challenge for things in a regular basis.

I agree with all that apart from the first sentence. I just think we shouldn't be fucking about with other candidates.

I agree, and think it is a risky strategy as it could alienate the one you really want.

Nobody has been a bigger critic of past board cock ups than I have but in this instance I think they are doing it exactly right.   In every aspect of life and business there always has to be a plan B and only fools never have one.

I think they know who their preference is but it takes two to tango.   If we let it be known that it's candidate X or nobody when candidate X's wife says her friends have told her Birmingham is an awful place full of dirt and gangsters and candidate X says sorry but I do not want the job we are left with same farcical scenario we had trying to replace O'Neill at short notice.

I think the big, big factor in all this is that Randy has agreed to place a very large sum of money on the table to get the right man.   Every man has his price and that will blow out the need to trawl the bottom for a McCarthy or a Curbishley.

There is more than one manager out there who can fix the Villa shortcomings because the problems are deep but clearly defined.   We need to start to play attractive passing football.   We need to heal the rift between the club and the fans caused by previous botched managerial appointments.   We need to ship out players who cause trouble and who do not work hard enough.   We need adequate funds to bring in good proven players and by that I mean the opposite of Alan Hutton.   We need to maximise the talent of the younger home grown players including helping Albrighton and Bannan find their way again.

We know what is wrong and how it went wrong.   With proper board support any one of three or four names discussed on this thread could make substantial improvements.   The hard thing is to find the one who will do it best.

I for one will be satisfied if we get a man more loyal than O'Neill, healthier than Houllier and more competent than McLeish.

What happens if this news about the obscene  amount of compensation demand are true? There are also other factors that could make this go off track so we do need to interview other candidates.

Solskjaer sounds like a great appointment to me - young, principled in the right way, likes his team to play good football, a winning mentality and a bit of 'stardust'. What's more it sounds like he wants the job, which is always a prerequisite so far as I'm concerned.

Yes it may be a risk - he has limited experience certainly at a high level, but everything he has done so far has resulted in success. If he was appointed and it didn't work out, I certainly wouldn't blame Lerner. It's an exciting, fresh prospect.

If you can't get excited about the idea then what's the point in following Villa and football in general?

Go get him Lerner!
