While I wasn't overly-thrilled abot the prospact of getting Solskjær, the fact that we seem not to have is a worry. He has said he wants to manage in England before. He's not going to get the Man U job or any job of that ilk at this stage. Villa would be an ideal step up, IF there's money to spend. If he's rejected the job it suggest there is none to spend. In which case I am worried we won't be able to attract Lambert (still my first choice) or any decent candidate either.

Obviously, write the above off as bollocks if it turns out we've rejected him, rather than the other way round.

well Lambert is 6/4 fave and Ole 10/1

Ole back to 4/1       oh its going to be fun the next two days

The different between Lambert and Ole , expect the deadwood maybe given another chance with Lambert but I would imagine Ole would get rid of most of them.

That is a concern to me as well cd.  You would have thought a manager in Solksjaer's position would have snatched their hand off if he had been offered the job.  If he has rejected the opportunity, then you do have to wonder what the stipulations of the job are.  I would think young managers are less likely to take a risk on a job with little going for it, as their future prospects would suffer a lot more as a result of failure.

There are many reasons why he wouldn't take the job, and not all of them are footballing/Villa ones. Family life, not wanting to upset Molde, his wife might not want to live in Sutton. We don't have to enter the realms of 'woe is me' just yet.

Fair point. But if he has said before "he wants to manage in England" then it suggests that the reason is football-related. Could be a myriad of things but if he was willing to talk to us and, having talked to us, has turned it down, the situation at Villa seems the most likely reason.

He hasn't turned it down yet.

The big decision for him will be after we have talked to other possible candidates if we go and make him a formal offer. Either way for me it reveals a clear indication of what the board is thinking in terms of candidates. Hopefully it keeps the bed wetters a little calmer that we are not going to after the likes of Bruce, McCarthy, Curbishley etc.

If we're going to interview Lambert on Monday, it might be difficult to make a good job of it. When you're conducting a selection process and the first candidate blows you away, you still feel obliged to see the others but you know what you want to do. There's no way for us to know how talks went yesterday but it's obvious who the fans want.

Is it obvious??

This time last week I'd have been happy with David O'Leary. A section of the supporters have said they'd be happy with OGS. Lambert would do a good job & if Martinez was the preferred choice last year, why wouldn't he be considered this time?

The club have said this is a process, where there will be a number of interviews after which they will make their move. The only reason OGS is in the press is because Lerners jet was a giveaway to what was going on.  Whilst OGS is considered a brave move, let's not get too carried away.

All this speculation seems quite ill informed. I'll wait and see what happens.

We do always seem to make a bit of a meal of it though don't we!

I'm cooling on Lambert a little bit, I hadn't really been aware he was perceived to be such a MON clone.

I'm cooling on Lambert a little bit, I hadn't really been aware he was perceived to be such a MON clone.

Most of that is down to his Celtic connections and the fact that he's MON's doppleganger. Lambert showed last enough last season that he's not as predictable and rigid like MONs teams are.
