OGS looks like desperation, Lambert and Rogers are the obvious targets, I think not getting either of those means we drop our ambitions to OGS.

That makes little to no sense.

"I wanted this person or that person. Because the papers aren't talking about them, that means we've failed and we're looking at inferior options".

It's possible that this is just who they think will do a good job. Rightly or wrongly.

We won't get Rodgers, he's pretty much ruled himself out of any move. We should have ruled out Martinez for obvious reasons and I have a strong feeling that RDM will either get the Chelsea gig or go back to Italy, possibly Lazio who are currently managerless.

That leaves OGS who if he was contacted on Monday as he has stated clearly is NOT a desperate lowering of ambitions but a front runner and the only target that we actually have confirmed yet from the club.

One would presume Lambert is on the list, but who else?

Looking at it objectively, OGS does not have a CV that would suggest he is ready to manage a top PL club.

Nor does he have a CV that suggests that he would make a mess of it either.

"Must have Premier League experience"

Where did that get us recently?

It's clear (to me) that whilst there are contingencies should anything go horribly wrong, there really isn't anybody except Solskjær getting this job.

It's all done and dusted bar the formalities.

Don't forget, it's not just a decision for us, it is one for him and his family, too. He's got to decide if he thinks the job is too much too soon, he has to speak to the chairman and discuss his vision for the club, he's got to be happy his family would enjoy moving back to the UK.

That's a lot for him to take in.

If I were him, and were offered the job, I think I'd ask for the weekend to think about it. Wouldn't surprise me if he does the same.

One thing I will say that, as we've been told for a while now, we are cutting back and trimming our expenditure. Solskjær is bound to ask about how much money he's going to have for team building. He might for all we know get told it's what he can raise by sales, in which case, he could well turn it down, despite everything else being right.

What I'm trying (and failing a bit) to say is that there are a lot of factors to sort out, and I wouldn't be getting convinced of anything just yet.

True Paulie and what we forget is that it is a risk for him as well.  If he came here and had a nightmare, that could well finish his coaching career in England before it even began.  He might not like the look of the current squad and if the promise of financial backing for team building isnt' there, he might decide it is not the job for him at this stage in his career.

Neither did McLeech nor arguably JG and GT1 either! I understand OGS doesn't appeal to you Hawkeye and that's fair enough, but I'm more excited about him than McCarthy, Bruce, Curbs etc, far more!

Clearly the reason that people are so on board with the idea is the unknown.

It's the fact that the board, following the well-publicised "has to have Premier League experience" have finally realised and decided, just as we wanted them to "fuck it, that didn't work. Let's try something new" rather than throwing more mud at the same wall.

Even if this doesn't work (and it could be a catastrophe), at least it shows they are thinking. Which is all I really want for the moment.

Did Lambert & Rodgers have CV's 12 months ago that suggested they were ready to manage in the PL?

If nothing is sorted by the end of next week, Allardyce and Coyle will be reality.

I would hope they would be looking around Europe for similar promising young managers.  There must be some out there?  Heiko Vogel perhaps?  He probably wouldn't be too cheap, though.

Spoken to two Man United fans today, both really sing the praises of Ole to the hilt.  Very good coach, great personality, forceful but nurturing too. They reckon he'll be a fantastic appointment for us. They were not being condescending either!!

I personally still think Premier League experience should be a pretty important criteria, but we should just avoid managers whose experience consists of two relegations in the space of three and a bit seasons.

No but they had pretty decent track record in managing in a league that is way ahead of the Norwegian league.
