What's the backroom numbers at spurs?
They have a coach for every player.

True, but I can see some potential managers not being keen on the idea of being told they have to have certain people already at the club on their backroom staff.   Also, as much as I like them, do MacDonald and Cowans get a free pass when the team is not doing well?

I've said it before, but given the success the reserves have, we should be doing better with getting them into the first team.

they're not that good though. the reserves is a bad standard

I do think we are slow at getting the kids a season first team football on loan. Looking at Lichaj and Herd, they have clearly benefited from it.

Liverpool appear to be looking at AVB, Rodgers, Klopp and Deschamps.

If I were Martinez I would be making sure Villa knew I wanted it now, because there is no better time to come to us, we are on our knees and anything above 10th next season will be hailed as genius, he could massively boost his reputation by realistically getting par with us over the next 3-4 years. I reckon after all the talk, he is still the most likely that the board will go back for, but may well be waiting till Liverpool appoint, knowing they were going to sack KKK, and knowing that not being considered would be a wake up call for Martinez.

Good point about the loans, but to be fair we have needed most of them at the club this season to make up the numbers!!

As for Martinez, if I were him I would be looking to Spain and the Valencia job at this point.  His stock is pretty high at the moment, and if he went and had a couple of decent seasons in Spain and did fairly well in the Champions League, he could walk into most jobs in Europe in a few years time.

How is Martinez's stock high when he's just finished 15th?

Look i think we've got some fine kids but top 6 players? mebbe 2. currently on personal opinion. Probably another 2 premiership average players, the rest i'd say vary from Championship to non-league. Probably pays for itself in transfers, but I certainly don't think we've got a core to push for the higher reaches of the premierrship. Its happened once to the richest club in the land and they've done very little on the youth front now for 15 years even with many times vaster resources than us. Pie in the sky if thats what lerner is counting on

Agree that we can't look to rely on the youth players coming through.  Who do you reckon the 2 top six and 2 Premiership average players are Greg?  From what I have seen of them, Clark (as a CB), Herd and Weimann look the best of the bunch.  Think Gardner and Carruthers are a little too young to be making a judgement on.

I don't know Dave, but the media seem to be making him out as some kind of genius.  I'm absolutely astounded that he is the favourite to take over a job like Liverpool and personally think that he could get found out once he steps up from a club with low expectations like Wigan.  That's why I think career wise, a move to Spain at this point might make good sense.

Wouldn't get too upset just yet Brian.  Just remember how wide of the mark pretty much all journalists were last summer.

Agree dave, he had a good finish to the season but people forget the 2 wins in 28 at the start and just surviving in recent seasons in my view doesnt make him a great manager , lambert and rogers have spent less , won promotions and comfortably held their own in the premiership- id take martinez but he would be 3rd choice out of those 3 for me.

Not thought to be interested doesnt mean he is not interested, i think lambert will jump at the chance if approached.

Keep saying it, but any of them should eastie. They will rarely get the opportunity to take over at a big club that has such low expectation, crucially from fans AND media observers. Get us above 10th and have a good cup run, then consolidate it after the last 2 seasons over the next 3-4 and you would be hailed as a managerial master. It is a brilliant job to get right now. Lambert/ Martinez/ Rodgers etc would be off their rocker not to jump at it.

The dalglish sacking really isn't helpful to us. Let's hope they move quickly and go for someone we're not interested in.

I don't have much faith in the board's ability not to make a complete hash of this though!

Liverpool will go for a heavy hitter - lack of funds due to KKK's appalling transfer dealings may hinder that but they'll go for it - a Mouriniho type of appointment.  I still have a cheeky feeling that MON might be secretly hoping to get approached.

I'd be amazed if Lamebert, Martinez etc were being considered.

I think this exactly right. Happily the two clubs are looking for different things right now.

Villa is actually the more patient club. We would be happy with a fresh manager playing great football who broke the top ten in his first year. Doing it with younger players and a few transfers.

Liverpool need to qualify for the CL next year and are willing to spend a fair bit if it doesnt happen the manager is out.

Liverpool cant afford to gamble on a lower teams manager.

I expect that today is the day we'll hear people ruling themselves out. It's all very well drawing up a shortlist but at some point your candidates have to say whether they're interested or not.

Let's not go too mad if we get a couple of knockbacks.

I won't be happy unless some of the more jittery amongst us set themselves on fire in protest.
