Benitez is a non runner. Doesn't think it's the right job for him.

Of course he is a "non runner" I could have told you that just by looking at him!! *munch munch

I can't believe they'd appoint McCarthy after talking about vibrancy.

I'd imagine he's just being interviewed, it helps to cast the net as far and wide as possible. He's a good bloke and he could offer some insight into how he'd approach it.

I can't help wondering what people would think if this time next week Roberto Di Matteo was both a Champions League winning manager and also an out of work manager.

Very nice symmetry.  Last year we hired the man who relegated Blues, this year we hired them man who took the Blues to European Championship glory.  30 years ago we won the European Cup beating Bayern Munich.  This year we hired the manager of the team who had just beaten Bayern Munich in the European Cup final.

He's not going to be interviewed, not a chance. If they contacted him like I said, it was probably to ask his opinion of one of our candidates because he's been around football for a long while.

Put it like this, if I was going to appoint Mick McCarthy I would schedule the press conference to coincide with the new England manager's Euro 2012 squad announcement press conference at 2pm today.

I think he was joking about the England one.

Anybody who honestly hand on heart believes that we will be appointing Mick McCarthy, Sam Allardyce, Gordon Strachan, Steve Bruce, Howard Wilkinson, Paul Jewell, Phil Brown etc etc etc etc, is off their rocker. Seriously you've all been sniffing glue. I know, someone is going come back with " well we appointed McLeish....", yes we did, but not on the back of such a series of statements from Randy and Faulkner. This year is very different. It's like the light has finally come on. I'm not saying it will be AVB, but it will be someone who meets the "young, hungry and ambitious" criteria.

For those who know about these things, No.1 trending on Yahoo is "Mick McCarthy". FFS, he's gone global..........

Benitez is a non runner. Doesn't think it's the right job for him.

I know the question is who would you like but can we be a bit pragmatic. I'd like to see Wenger but it ain't gonna happen.

Firstly Benitez is not going to come because he is not going to be given 100m war chest and a 3m salary. Also I wouldn't want him - style of football is effective but dull.

AVB is not coming because like it or not he will get a much better current offer - likely Roma.

Hiddinck is not coming - ludicrous proposition for a person who could get just about any job in the world

Guardiola/Mourinho are not coming either - see Hiddinck.

Klinsmann is in work where he lives (US).
Bilic is going to Moscow to work
Low - I doubt he would want to make a decision prior to Euro 2012 and I'm sure one of the big German jobs will be available over the next 6 months.

Realisitcally the best we will get is a promising UK based manager with a perceived or real progressive mindset and hence the banding about of Rogers, Lambert and Martinez. Remember this Villa is a great job but very difficult (it has never been easy and nor should it be). Howver each and every one of those 3 would be putting their reputations on the line if they took the job.

It is a manager's graveyard - it has been a long time since anyone left Villa and got a better job - Dr Jo, BFR, Little, Gregory, O'Leary done nothing of note. Oo Eck will join that list as well, remains to be seen what happens to MON.

For me there are 3 tiers...

(Really want - Cant see it) AVB or Klinsman

(Realistic - Optimistic) Martinez or Benitez

(Realistic - risk) Rogers or KMac & Cowans

Dont want to see: Lambert, Curbishly, McCarthy, Hoddle, Hughton, McLaren, bruce, hughes etc!

You’ve missed Van Gaal.  He’s currently out of work.
