If it is to be a quick appointment, as has been mooted by PF, then surely it HAS to be someone out of work at the moment ?

Lambert, Rodgers, Coyle, Allardyce.
They were great at Reading 73.  Especially the latter with his flute.  You don't find good prog band like them anymore.

Then it has to be either Van Gaal or Guadiola - Brum is twinned with both Barca and Munich and both men were managers in the aforementioned cities.... The clues are there.

I like that list PaulWinch.

Except for Benitez

Are you seriously saying you would prefer Lambert, Martinez or Rodgers (who between them have won nothing and managed small clubs) to a man who has won 2 league titles and a UEFA cup with Valencia, the champions league and FA Cup with Liverpool and managed Inter ?

I know its all down to personal opinion but I don't get what all the fuss is about regarding Martinez and Rodgers.

I think it's Chris Hughton and he's spoken to Shay Given.

Gary Speed?

Here is today's chart news pop pickers. McCarthy drops one to number three and coming into the top ten are Grayson at four and Cowans at number eight. Meanwhile Lambert and Martinez battle it out to be number one when it really matters in a Band Aid 'Do they know it's Christmas' and Wham 'Last Christmas' kind of way.

Just never enjoyed the way Benitez sides play their football.  For me Liverpool were a real snooze team when he managed them.  Maybe compared to our previous encumbent I would reasses my thoughts but there you are.

I would also be worried by the potential for another Liverpool love in twice a season, and am mindful of the way Benitez has been out of work for so long (why have no other teams touched him?).

And I haven't forgiven him for the Gareth Barry saga.

small market or not there's no smoke without fire. These fuckwits are capable of anything but i can't see them paying out compo for another manager so someone out of work would appear likely but FFS mad Mick? It's suicide on every level. in fact, its beyond suicide.

I don't see why it has to be somebody out of work.  Once they'd decided on McLeish (shudder) last year, they didn' waste much time in getting him in to be fair.  Also once the targets are identified, Lerner doesn't really need to be here necessarily.  And even if he does, privae jet travel means he can be back in the UK pretty sharpish.

I don't think there's any possiblity of our new manager being Joachim Low or Klinsmann since they both are managing national teams...has there ever been manager who's been in charge of national team and club at the same time?

Not to mention that the writing has been on the wall for a while with McLeish so the board would have had the opportunity to sound out agents etc to see whether their client would be interested.

I can't help wondering what people would think if this time next week Roberto Di Matteo was both a Champions League winning manager and also an out of work manager.

Benitez is a non runner. Doesn't think it's the right job for him.
