I may be a bit stupid here, but would a Premiership manager need a lot of time to "assess" another Premiership team's squad? Surely they're always eyeing up players as potential signings or as opponents.

We're not going to win anything anytime soon. The playing style has been horrible this year, and apart from brief spells under Houllier where there were signs of a more expansive game, we have been pretty unattractive for a long time now. We need someone who's not going to need mega-money (as it doesn't sound like it will be available), who will play attractive and attacking football and who can start to heal the club. Good with the younger players and capable of setting the foundations for a long-term revolution.

I think Brendan Rodgers looks like he would be great. I acknowledge that he's only had relatively recent success and that the work done by Martinez before him at Swansea helped put things in place but who wouldn't want a Villa team that played like Swansea?

Paul Lambert wouldn't be bad but has a little too much in common with O'Neill for my liking. Moyes is unlikely to go anywhere and Everton can be pretty conservative and gritty too. Martinez... who knows if he would want to move but despite Wigan playing well in the last third of the season, is he the man for the job? Di Matteo - is he actually any good? Does anyone know?

It all depends on what we want. Solid mid- to upper-table through grinding out results and counter-attacking football or stylish attacking play that will be sensational some games and get torn apart in others. I know which one I think would be more fun to watch.

Brendan Rodgers please.

I think people hankering after AVB are kidding themselves I really do. I think he is a decent manager, but will be looking way higher up the food chain than us. IF he comes, then we are obviously willing to put a bit of money up for fees. I would think Lerner could well say to whoever comes there is x this summer, x next, and x the season after for fees within this wage budget, and then we want to be in a higher position and able to generate more cash.

Don't forget though he is out of work and so would be able to get a better package due to not being subject to compensation. He also loves England and the premiership and has something to prove after failing miserably at Chelsea. I think some of the bigger clubs may be put off by his recent failure and I don't believe Liverpool would be a good option for him with their instant craving for success and high pressure. We could be a good fit for him

Rogers has recently signed a 3 yr deal at Swansea so would be a very expensive option which I doubt we would explore. How many millions have we wasted in the last 3 years?

what do people think of Gus Poyet as new manager

I would quite like Poyet, and think he deserves a shot.
