Pat Murphy asked if the new manager would be in place before the end of May, Faulkner replied that while it was out of our hands to a certain extent, we were certainly looking to get moving asap.

When asked if we were looking for a specific change in direction, PF played a straight bat, saying yes, in terms of results and league position. So no clues there.

App Faulkners phone has been ringing non stop since y'days announcement but of course no names were mentioned.

Elsewhere, the Norwich guy (Mick Dennis I think was said -Ta) says Lamberts agent Asshole Still, will almost certainly be talking to Villa at some stage but whether anything comes from it is another thing. According to Wigan journo Paul Kendrick, Martinez is meeting with Whelan today and TalkShite seem sure Dalglish is leaving the dippers shortly.

I actively despise KKKenny.  Let's hope he gets his cards, so that bedsheet sales in Liverpool can rise again.

I imagine every agent for every manager from the Championship down has been in touch, plus the usual suspects like Bruce and Curbishley.

Just came across a decent article comparing Rodgers and Lambert.

http://espn.go.com/sports/soccer/story/_/id/7497382/swansea-norwich-bring-much-more-geography-prem-michael-cox

The stats in there are very interesting and important. Norwich have a pretty low pass-completion rate (and for much of the season I believe only Blackburn and Stoke played more long balls). Now, I'm not knocking Lambert because, as the article says, he's a meticulous, intelligent, tactical manager who knows what he's doing and may well do great things in the game somewhere. However, I'm not entirely convinced his football would be a good fit for Villa. It seems like a development on MON-ball, albeit an intelligent one, and one a bit at odds with what the academy system - and we need to have a consistent football ideology running through the club, in my view.

Exactly my reservation about him, I'm glad it's borne out by the stats (I hadn't checked).  I think he'll be a good manager for someone, I'm just not sure it's the right choice for us right now.

Thought Faulkner did OK in that Pat Murphy interview. Talked about a new manager to reinvigorate the club and bring stability, and dispelled the poison going around about Villa having 4 managers in 2 years when the new one is appointed by pointing out 1 had resigned, 1 had to retire ill, and 1 was sacked after an awful season.

Hope they keep him . Id be gutted If they got a AVB or someone good.  The longer he stays the better , he might even buy Hutton off us for £10 milliom

As much as I would love to see him suffer personally by being sacked (his conduct this season has been just horrible), I agree from a Villa perspective that him staying on would be a good thing.

(Happy 6000th post to me, by the way!)

If we somehow managed to get Moyes in, I reckon he'd take us to Champions League within four years. He's a better manager than MON, he would inherit a decent, young squad with a top four goalkeeper and a 20 goal a season striker. He'd also presumably get say £30m to spend on sorting out our defence. He seems to find good, cheap players with the right attitude so the first season would likely take us to top ten. The players would not mess with somebody like Moyes. He is a winner and has a reputation. Moreover, he's in his prime unlike Houllier who was probably just past his. Having stabilised and hopefully having increased revenue from ticket sales, merchandise, and improved League placing we'd be then well poised to push for the top six.

If only it was all that easy! Lambert, Martinez and Rogers remain the most likely and most realistic.

Why is there so much hate towards Faulkner? I honestly don't know enough about him to make any judgement

I don't care. Let the Argentinians have them back.

Yeah, KKKenny going could well complicate our manager search.

I'd love Moyes but I very much doubt there's any point in going for him now unless Randy (or somebody else) really is planning to invest a fortune.
