Yep. Fair play to him he got them doing much better this season than I thought they would. I had them as been stuck near the bottom of the table all season.

I remember years ago reading that his favourite  away ground was Villa Park, but no thanks Lamberto for me

Hughton's done really well there, especially with all the games they ended up playing.

I think he'll want to move on to a big club now.

Hughton was (one of the many) on my original wish list. Think he's exactly what we need - a good young manager who's done really well in trying circumstances down the road and shows real promise for the future. His treatment by Newcastle was disgraceful

If I was to go for a manager out of the Championship it would be between Poyet and Holloway. I know Holloway opens his mouth a lot, but I think he would do a really really good job with us, and get us playing decent football too.

Poyet has done well at Brighton, always seemed a tough player and would come in very well connected, so may have a clue about scouting etc, and also may not be adverse to the director of football idea.

Interesting to see Roeder has turned down the managers job in some Greek club to stay as our scout, I wonder if he could take on a more technical role within the club with some success. Would never want him as manager, but maybe he could oversee the scouting and football side of things.

Everybody says they love Villa Park. Sir Ferguson, Bent and countless others have listed VP as their favourite away ground. We need to make it a Villa fortress again.

Why not take out a small advert to that effect in the Evening Mail? I understand they are all the rage right now.

I had no idea he was on the books. When did this happen?

I'm not defending AMcL, but, given the hand he was dealt do you think another manager would have faired any better with the players available and no money to strengthen the squad?
Yes.

McLeish spent more in the summer than Norwich or Swansea have spent in the last decade. They have seemed to cope.
He also had our 2 best players (and with it Bent's supply line) and our midfield anchor sold before he even started.
The money he spent wasn't strengthening the squad!
I didn't say it was. I was pointing out the fallacy of saying that he had no money to spend.

He spent £20m. He just didn't spend it particularly wisely.
I see what you're saying Dave, and I agree that it's a fallacy, saying that he's had no money to spend.
What I'm getting at is: We needed 6 or 7 players to strengthen the squad after losing so many,  but he wasn't given the funds. We got 3 players that didn't even bring us to the level (quality wise) we were the previous season.
You say he didn't spend it wisely, but, Given we all accept is a good buy. N'Zogbia, I think 95% of Villa fans (not me I hasten to add) wanted him. We needed him to hit the ground running, but, he's struggled to say the least.
Hutton, hmmm, we were desparate for a right back with Luke Y going back to London. My concern with him is lack of pace.
