Martinez is favourite at the moment in the odds isn't he, by a distance? Not that it means anything!

Randy & Co let so little slip out that they probably haven't a clue and Martinez is favourite based purely on our prior interest in him.

And I share Clampy's concerns about why his Wigan side needs to be up sheet creak before they reach for the paddle!

Normally I'd agree, but at least his team tries to play football and also since it's replacing Mcleish I'd risk it.

Lets be honest - very few managers we could name would not be seen as any improvement from AM right now.  So, do we just settle for that or look for the best available candidate?

To me, taking a manager like Martinez, who has a question mark over him, would mean the potential to be in a similar position in 12 months time and end up looking for a new man AGAIN.  Now that is of course a possibility whoever we appoint, but I'd be dismayed if they had a similar mentality of "Doesn't matter who we get and they'll just be glad Alex has gone."

There's definitely an element of that John.

I'd just like to give a big thumbs up to Len Fairclough at this stage in the proceedings.

Its vital they decide on the sort of football they think we should be playing and get the best available candidate to suit. Then stick with that philosophy. I just wonder if they even know the difference between a Rodgers or Martinez or a McLeish or... Pulis. I hope so.

They must know we've had a gutful of this turgid football now and try and get a guy in who knows how to entertain but its pointless if they then do another about face (Houllier - McLeish).

But any manager we now go for will have a question mark or two over them. We're not in the position to go for the most proven at the moment.

I have doubts about certain apsects of Martinez but after this season I'm more than willing to take any risk just to see something less soul destroying and spirit sapping on a Saturday afternoon.
And its true than any reasonable manager will have a huge wave of goodwill to surf on. Because he's not McLeish.

The twat who sits next to me at the ground was loudly telling no-one in particular how he'd get either Gareth Southgate or Glenn Hoddle. Oh, how we laughed!

I know he's been asked before but Moyes is yet to have discussions with Everton,a fifty million war chest could get him.

Bernie Clifton for me.

You'd soon forget about being 4-0 down at home to Wigan as he jumped up from the dug out in his always amusing ostrich outfit.

What about Hulk Hogan? I want to see some passion on the sidelines and him ripping his shirt off and giving the ref the death eyes and point would be just the ticket. And if he had to kick Kenny Dalglish in the back then that's a bonus.
I'm sure the Holte would love to see him cup his ear to them.

The problem as I see it is there is no footballing philosophy.  And why should there be when the owner and CEO have no pedigree in the game.  The only criteria I see coming from them is 'must have managed in the premier'.  It needs to be far, far more than that.

For the umpteenth time we will be starting over again with a new man next season, his ideas, his style and his type of players.  This would be very welcome short term, long term we will be as far away from an football philosophy as we ever were.  Until we instill that we will be saying the same things year in year out.  But it's so basic, look at Barcelona and their style, it wont matter who manages them they will play the same way.  Closer to home, ManU too have a way of playing as have Spurs.  Of course they have better players than us but they have had their style for many a year and just top up when the right or better players become available.

We need to develop a Villa style.  A style that is the same what ever level we are performing at.  We need a manager who can bring that to the club and instill his methods throughout the club at every level.
