Wigan finishing above us (if they do) may be a blessing in disguise when Randy and Paul sit down to look at the final table.

Randy won't be too dissatisfied with Wigan finishing above us, it will mean we'll get a better chance of the better players for the new season draft.

Lets all hope and pray he is right

Lambert, Martinez, Poyet, Rogers. Any of them would be great. Young, ambitious and done it with players far less fancied than ours.

That's why I wasn't really bothered if Wigan won tonight because it just reinforces how wrong the board were over the course last summer and how they went about the selection of the new manager process. They will stamp their feet wishing they really did go for Martinez and not get played by Dave Whelan. As you said I hope when they see the league table they will realize how appointing McLeish was utter madness and letting the guy they wanted get away and then finish above us the following season was a big fuck up on their behalf.

People who didn't want Martinez will now realize after going through a horror season with McLeish that Martinez in hindsight would of been the better choice of manager and we should if got him when we could.

I don't see all the fuss with Martinez, apart from the last half a dozen games Wig-on have been absolute toilet. - No thanks

Being better than McLeish doesn't necessarily mean actually been good enough to be manager of Aston Villa.

Very good. Maybe we can nick that Hughton from the other lot. He'd do a decent job at Left Back.

Yet people on here want Rodgers or Lambert...

I'm really, really wary of Next Big Thing managers. I can't remember the last one to do well on the back of moving to a better job after promotion and staying up.

Surely a better strategy than the last 2 picks.

I am trying to remember one, Hughes? I get your point, moulding a club in your own image is not necessarily the prelude to walking into Villa Park and becoming the messiah.

I have never and still dont understand why so many ppl would like Martinez in charge at Villa. Could some of you please explain why you think he would do such a great job for us as I just dont see it.

Well I'd rather him next season than McDuff. At least he can avoid relegation for more than one season. Blues are twice the club Wigan are in terms of size and Villa 3 times the size.He has worked very well at his 2 jobs.

Perhaps not my first choice but he builds teams with the emphasis on playing football and not relying on individuals.  His teams are greater than the sum of their parts by a long way.  Because of this he does not have to rely entirely on money.  Also, he must be a great motivator and instills belief in his players as shown by Wigan coming back from the dead the last two seasons.
I acknowledge that he has little budget to work with, but I dont buy into DWs myth that Martinez is one of the best young managers in Europe, and I certainly dont see a manager who annually avoids relegation as any kind of great motivator, tactician or being suitable for the job at Villa Park. If Martinez is the best we can do then this club really is in the shite.
