Paolo di Canio anyone? It'd be entertaining on and off the pitch at least.

Be brave Randy and go for Benitez. Show that Aston Villa wants to compete. He'd have us competing for the top six within two seasons I reckon and with much less money than spunked away by MON.

Fuck no. He'd want millions just to walk through the door, millions more to waste on a bunch of talentless French and Spanish players as we pray he finds the next Torres or Alonso. Then as the heat goes up he'll be reading bollocks from scrawls on a napkin. He had a lot of resources at Inter and fucked that up. He's not a good fit for us at all.

He was interviewed last time.

Randy cut the interview short when Benitez said how much transfer money he'd need to make a good fist of it.

Oh I know. They wouldn't have go round to his contract demands. There's no doubt that he is a good manager, but we don't need any more off the field nonsense. We need to find someone that gets on with the job and wants to build an attractive and successful team. Have a personality but be humble with it. I like AVB. I thought he handled hs brief time at Chelsea quite well and with dignity despite the pressure finally getting the better of him. For me, he can be our very own Wenger. He's astute, young and he'll be hungry to redeem himself. Unfortunately, it's also very unlikely.

We don't want to repeat the Houllier experience with Benitez.

I think he'd be better than Houllier. He knows the game pretty well, took Liverpool to second. Give him a few years and he'd do a decent job.

I actually think, this time, the appointment of getting a football man (or two) on the board with some clout and vision is probably more important.
I dont want anybody on that current board making any footballing decisions after that.

Go and get Cryuff, Comolli, Eriksson... whoever.
Give them the brief and let them appoint accordingly.

We won't be challenging at the top end so can we get someone in who will entertain us with a style of play that makes people want to watch us.

Correct, unless Lerner acknowledges the problems start at the top down we will see the same mistakes repeating themselves. The last time the managers job was vacant they treated it as if it was any old managerial job where applicants can send in their resume' suprised it wasn't posted in the local labour exchange. This is a specialised area and needs someone with a grounding in the industry to see it through.Don't let Faulkner anywhere near it.

agreed, we need someon with 'clout and vision' (D.Bowie ?)  and CONTACTS too, Faulkener is no footballing man,
which is why we're like a ship with no rudder...

Or Sir Graham Taylor. Yes we need someone like him to come in and shake the whole place up like he done the first time round. Someone who is brutally honest and knows how a club should be run from top to bottom.
From a managers point of view he extended his whole beyond just managing the first team.

That's it. It still worries me to death that we will replace Mcleish with A.good manager and Faulkner will still be running the football side of things. We need an experienced DOF.

I doubt AVB would be interested in the Villa job. I reckon he see's himself in a lot higher profile club than us.
I agree with you tv on getting someone that is not high maintenance. We need a manager who is passionate, gets on with the job and believes in playing the game the way it should be.

I would go for Brendan Rodgers or Gus Poyet.

No not contract demands, it didn't get that far.

It was Benitez's thoughts on how much transfer money he wanted.

Exactly, a young up and coming manager with some idea of attractive football. One of the more depressing aspects of this season has been becoming the team that no one wants to watch

I'd have John Gregory or Sir Brian back with a younger upcoming coach like a Laursen or Melberg under them.

We need Villa men or people who 'get' the club involved
