Lambert, Martinez, Clark, Hoddle, Poyet, McClaren, Curbishley, Mcdermott or get brave with Laursen and Mellberg dream team.

James Nursery on Twitter reckons that although Villa haven't made contact, he's heard that Lambert would take the Villa job if it was offered. Maybe there's hope..?

It's a definite step up from Norwich, most of the cuts and savings amongst the squad will have been made by now at Villa, or at least when Heskey, Cuellar and Guzan go in the summer.  There will be a few more out I reckon with the likes of the fringe players being sold, so Lambert would come in and be given more of a free hand.  This will no doubts also be a part of the excuse for McLeish, no money, no support from the fans in what I reckon will be a gone by mutual consent type statement.  I wouldn't care what he said, he'd be gone.  That's all that counts.

I'm not sure about Lambert. Could be a Mike Walker to Everton situation.

Myself can:t see why any true villa fan would want to put names forward for the managers job most sorry all those mentioned are either failures or unproven.Yes get rid of the Moron we have but bring in some one who is a proven manager at the highest level or villa will never be a force to be reckoned ever again.

I find it so depressing that people think we could get AVB. It shows how unrealistic the expectations of some of our fans are.

Who said we could get him?  The point is, Villa should at least ask.  Start at the top of the list and work our way down.

I would counteract that Terry with how can an unproven manager prove himself at the highest level if he isn't given a job at a big club?  I think we could see a managerial merry-go-round this summer, triggered by Redknapp taking the England job.  Moyes to Tottenham maybe, leaving a vacancy at Everton, which in turn could be filled by another Premiership manager.  We need to strike early if we are going to do it.

Looking back through his posts he'd go for David Moyes. Who many have mentioned and whose credentials, while good, aren't all that much better than others mentioned. Besides which, I'd be very surprised if he came.

If McLeish does go, I can't see us getting someone like Moyes. We are not going to pay big money out for another manager as well as paying McLeish off.

I think we'll end up with an unproven manager or someone who has not quite cut the mustard at another club and is looking for another chance, all that we can hope is that RL and PF realise that they are not up to making the decision on there own and get some help from people who know the game, know what we need and can help the club get the best candidate for the job.

Seriously what has everybody got against Curbishley  ???

That's the most obvious trolling nonsense you've come up with yet, HWV.

If Alan Pardew had been suggested as Villa manager on here a couple of years ago, nobody would be interested.

But look at how well he's done at Newcastle.

Before he went to Newcastle, I would say that Curbishley had probably a better reputation than Pardew.

Lambert didn't exactly say what I would want to hear if I was a Norwich fan in his press conference today.

Judging by how far we've fallen, the track record of managerial recruitment and money available we wont have many options that excite us i'm afraid.

If we discounted the fantasy AVB style appointments, focused on the genuine candidates we would attract and the circumstances that they would have to work under it would be between Poyet and Curbishley.

Norwich City boss Paul Lambert is upset over rumours linking him with Aston Villa.

The Scot has been mentioned as a replacement for Alex McLeish.

"Speculation about players is something you can never do anything about. It happens with managers as well and you can never stop that," the Norwich manager told a press conference.

"If my players get linked with other teams, there is not a thing I can do about that. It is the same situation about myself.

"However, it is extremely unfair with me being linked with Aston Villa when they have got a really good manager up there who is doing everything he can to stay in the league.

"It is an unfair comment for me to say anything on that."

I question his judgement already.
