Let's be realistic about this, say we stay up. AM get's sacked. Who are the realistic contenders, given the constraints of the clubs new approach that would apply for this?.... usual suspects?

Steve Bruce?
Alan Curbishley?

Both wouldn't work under similar ways at Wolves.

Or do we look to the future, someone younger...

Martinez?.... what would make him take it now? we're in a worse position than last year when he didn't want to know

Di Matteo?.... if he doesn't get Chelsea job then he'll probably walk into a job in Europe somewhere....

I'm sure there are others....

I think even if we stay up we'll struggle to find anyone of any real quality - been that way since MON left if we're honest.

When we ended up with GH it was because the season had started and there was no availability - then last Summer when that excuse wasn't around we ended up with a shortlist of Martinez (who claims he turned us down) McClaren, Curbishley and McLeish.

We just cannot attract anyone, the Villa aura has gone for top Managers and unless we get a new owner with money to spend it aint gonna be coming back.

If we go down we could do worse than Alan Curbishley - Christ did I just type that!!  Either that or a young ambitious Manager but as Martinez proved last Summer even they don't see us as anything but the Managerial graveyard we've been for younger Managers - Turner, Little, Gregory, DOL, AML.  I reckon people take notice of that kind of thing.

The luxury is that whoever it is they can't do a worse job than Mcleish and there will be so much positivity once he's gone. If it isn't Bruce, Pulis or McCarthy most people would be happy.

Give the last 3 to Ian Taylor, a true Villan.

Fight the good fight and maybe, just maybe we'd get 2 points.

Next Manager ?

Someone with Championship experience.

I *think* I saw Simon Grayson arriving at the game yesterday. Very late, like me.

If we're going for a short term man for 3 matches only the shout someone put for Ron Atkinson is a good as any.  We need a motivator but also someone who has passion for the Club, relax the kids in training but also has some serious footballing nous.

Ian Taylor, beloved though he is, well we might as well get one of us lot in there.

The sad fact is we'd struggle to do as badly as Mcleish.

You know, i always roll my eyes when people say they could have done better, scored that goal or managed the team better but in this case i honestly believe many of us on this site really could.

From selection to formation to tactics to motivation, this season has been a complete train crash.

Curbishley does alot of pundit work for the football channel out here, and there is no doubt that if the job was going, he would go for it. If we do go down, I would not mind him getting the job, not sure why all the hatred for him on here, always speaks kindly and respectfully of the Villa and at the moment seems sorry to see us where we are.

Yeah Curbishley would probably be the best we'd get if we went down.

I all seriousness, even if we stayed up he'd be a decent Manager, he played for us ( 36 games) and is West Ham 'trained' so at least we could expect better than what we've endured this season.

If we go down, he'd be excellent in my opinion.

A broom with a wig would do better than this idiot.  I go one here they can have for £2m.

If we stay up then Curbishley would be a good bet.

Worked miracles at Charlton and he kept West Ham in the league.

not for me. apart from the obvious Villa and Blues connection he has, he wouldnt last twelve months at the club either.

Gotta be a fresh approach and a bold one that raises spirits with a much needed Villa hero back in. I'd personally like to see either Laursen, Southgate or even Dean Saunders given the job, with Graham Taylor back in some capacity and a major clearout of the under performers.
