Thing about Guardiola was that he knew the club and set up, so was fully aware of the players they had and what they were capable of.  As was the board, so wanted someone who could just come in and hit the ground running with them and not try to change anything.  Therefore I don't attribute much of their success to the manager, other than for the good sense to just let the players get on with it.

I'm pretty sure we need to get him on the coaching first, he may not even want it? So Guardiola had no managment experience whatsoever before he got the Barca job?

He managed their C and B teams.  Getting rid of the C team so that the B team was more competitive.
Whilst he had no “proper” experience he was earmarked as a Barca manager very early in his career.  I have read some article recently and he was always a very diligent student of the game too.

I've posted pro Laursen comments dating back too MON's successor. For me he'd be worth the gamble. In terms of othet candidates, what about Di Canio?

He's been a revelation in his first full season and show lots of potential. A proven leader and definately his owj man. Would kick up a stir in the Prem too! And get Laursen as first team coach!

An emphatic no to Di Canio from me. This is a different level and I'm just not sure about his temperament.

This is just completely untrue. He's made huge differences to the way they play, particularly their pressing of the ball up the pitch. He's tactically very sophisticated too. I agree that there's no certainty at all that he'd replicate it at another club, but to say he's just let the players get on with is a huge dis-service

Agree, I think he would be a good manager but I think he would end up belting someone. I would like to see Cowans and Laursen, but Im not sure Cowans wants it. So with all the youth coming through I would ask MacDonald again to step up with Laursen as understudy with a view to take over after 3 seasons.

Gentlemen I would suggest Lerner/Faulkner will dispense with the current manager Mr McCleish (and Mr Grant) and employ as the new manager.... Terry Connor!  Possibly Mr Lerner will get rid of Faulkner and replace him with the dreaded Jez Moxey!

Joking apart and Im repeating myself I would go for Jamie Carragher and Houllier as Director of Football

As long as neither of them mention a certain team!

Seriously though

I'd love Big Ron back with Wilkins and Laursen as coaches

Jamie Carragher? No thanks. I can't stomach that scouse twat as it is.
I dont see why we have to gamble on somebody with no experience at all and its not really what we need.
Somebody up and coming and not yet the finished article by all means, a Rodgers, Lambert, AVB and so on but not a complete novice.
