I personally would give Jamie Carragher a shot. Its well known that hes very knowledgeable on world football, lives and breathes the game so we are told and has the authority to get the best out of players.

I know he talks in a foreign language but hes going to be a very good manager given the time.

Sven!

Would be a good shout for DoF. Knowledgeable, respected, contacts throughout the world and might fancy getting away from the day to day slog of management.

Agreed. Not a bad shout at all. With a manager like Martinez or Rodgers under his wing it could be something to get behind.

To elaborate, what we need at Villa is someone respected enough that everybody in the game would take a call from them. The people off the pitch have many abilities but they don't command such respect.

And if he shags a few models now and then, well, what harm?

I'm down with Svennis building a bit of a network for us and allowing a young manager to get on wth the onfield activities.

If Sven comes I'll know it's all over. Time to give it all up.

I wouldn't mind Sven as Director of Football but it just seems that most British Isles managers will not accept working with one. As we only appoint those with "Premier League experience" it seems a non-starter.

I'd go for an up and coming manager who'd be willing to work for a pittance like, say, only £1m a year. Spend loads of money on compiling the best scouting network north of Arsenal. Concentrate on Croatia, as they are joining the EU all their players will be available without a work permit soon. Get in quick before the other teams do.

Unfortunately Sven is only interested in money and profile, nothing that AVFC could offer him at present... thankfully.

Can people cite one single instance of the director of football model working in this country? I have to say it completely escapes me

Problem with that is that a joint manager position never works so you'd have to pick one over the other. Then would the other one get pissed off and leave?
