We cud be looking at Bruce or Mcarthay. Better managers than current but not inspiring.

Bruce or McCarthy? For fan reaction, see McLeish, Alex.

Those two are on a very short list who I wouldn't want near the Villa job, along with Allardyce and Pulis.

We're Aston Villa. We ought to be shopping at Waitrose, not Poundland.

The more I think about Lambert in our dug out, the more the idea sounds bettet and better. Just a gut feeling but I think he'd be very good.

You can see the thought process.... Bruce had Bent in his best ever form at Sunderland and they were 6th in the league when we bought him.... we must hire him!

Yeah but imagine what Bruce could do with Randy's backing...

In a straight choice between Peter Withe and Alex McLeech? No contest, come home Peter, but right now Lambert is a better shout than just about anyone I think, has some very valid experience but still a lot to prove. Of course, he won't come if Randy ain't going to back him and that, other than as yet McLeech hasn't gone (Why not? The final whistle went hours ago!) could be the stumbling block for any candidate. On the one hand it's an enticing prospect (surely) to revive the fortunes of this great club and take it forwards, but without that backing it's going to be a long, hard slog for anyone!

Would love him here but why would he leave Norwich to come to us?

It just shows you how the faith in our club has been wrecked doesn't it?  Paul Lambert, managing a club so far inferior to Aston Villa in size and stature etc and we are wondering if he'd want to make the move.  If Lambert felt he was part way through a project, or wanted to be loyal, like Martinez last year, then I'd totally understand it, but Norwich are a small club and I'd hope that Lambert would want to move because he see's the opportunity as too good to pass up.

My thoughts exactly.
But perhaps he likes being at a "small" club which he has brought up to the Prem and wants to consolidate their position - the incomplete "project" might be too strong to tempt him away?

I wonder what AM's project is?

I can think of a few reasons why an up and coming ambitious manager would not come.
Lack of new Investment
Player problems.
Players with time on thier contracts that will be very hard to move on.
Fan disenchantment
The MON perspective.
The Aston Villa storey does not look appealing right now, unless RL can say to a prospective Manager, there is real money to play with, we could still end up with Mcliesh.

Stick with McLeish, then?

No, not a chance. I am just pointing out that RL,s criteria for the job could see him stay.
