How about putting it on E-Bay and auctioning it off

Warnock? Can't we just give him to the Albion.

That's a good point, Damon.  I had thought about saving it until there's something Villa related to celebrate.  What's the shelf life of champagne?

Put it this way: don't plan to drink it when we win the FA Cup. It will taste like dishwasher tablets and you will be dead.

Goal of the season should be a bit more interesting, despite our goals for column we've actually scored a fair few crackers.

Ireland I think.  Just by way of example, in the last, fairly abject, game against Stoke he did look the part a bit more than the others - not that it led to any goals but I was on the edge of my seat slightly more than when anyone else had the ball.  As others have said I think we should build a team around him and the young 'uns - don't think we're about to sign anyone else of his quality in the near future.

Would like it to be Petrov and/or Herd but they're not quite there on purely football reasons in my view.

Hello everyone by the way.  Was a regular poster under this user name about 10 years ago - for various reasons went away, but now I'm back.  Break out the bloody champagne.

Can't think of anyone that's been good throughout the season really apart from Given , Herd and  Ireland.   I'd go for Ireland as he's my kind of player, and it's shame more of the others aren't on his wavelength.   Sentiment aside I've always been a bit Meh! as regards Petrov and I've not seen anything to change that this year.  Consistent yes, but consistently average, the personification of "not quite good enough for the top end of the PL".

Ireland for me. Mainly because at the start of the season, I had very low expectation levels from him.

I thought Petrov was having his best season for us until his illness.

Weimann will score 20 gals in the next 6 games and win Young Footballer of the Year, never mind our player of the season!

In the real world, Ireland or Herd.
My son actually stood with mouth agape on Monday and said "Fuck me, what's Ireland doing with all that running about stuff?"
Herd's got the makings of a really good player - nothing fancy but very reliable in any/every game.

Petrov against Everton and a few decent ones from Gabby and Herd. Not to forget Weimann.

Gabby on the first home game of the season for me, outside of the box with a beautiful finesse around Robinson. Lovely Lovely Lovely.

Petrov vs Sunderland and N'Zogbia vs QPR are worth throwing in there as well.

Player: Stiliyan Petrov
Young Player: Chris Herd
Most Improved Player: Stephen Ireland

Would have to go with this also.

I was in the minority willing to persist with Ireland all through last season and until December of this when he finally got a run in the team. He has touch, movement and vision that really can't be taught and therefore a certain amount of shenanigans are worth turning a blind eye to. I really hope we buy players in the summer that are on a similar wavelength to him. Otherwise he's wasted (in a way like Angel was during our mediocre days under Taylor/O'Dreary).

Herd has been solid. I kind of thought he would go the same way as Hogg from last season who was similarly dogged and combative. Chrissy seems to have a bit more about him, as shown by his peach of a goal at Anfield on Saturday. He's also as brave as a lion and the potential to be a useful asset from headers. Of all the kids he deserves recognition.

Had Clacker been given more of a chance before Christmas and been free of injury in the second part of the season he would have pushed him. Similarly, the welcome emergence of Weimann has been too recent to give him an award. The much-vaunted blooding of Gary Gardner has yielded tentative results. I thought he looked the best player on the pitch in his cameo at Newcastle when he came on for the last part of the game. But too often he has been shunted out to the wing and as a result hasn't imposed himself enough in games. A lot more to come you would hope.

The class of 2009, Bannan, Albie and Fonz have all found it trickier this season. It will be interesting to see what, if any, role they have at the club next season.

Finally, Stilyan (did anyone hear Garth Crooks calling him ''Sylvain'' on BBC the other week?!) was having a solid season as ever, this time augmented with far more goals than before. We all know there's shortcomings to his game but he's been the most consistent player we've had over the last few years and if he gets this award - the whole idea of awards this season is pretty dubious given the mediocrity that has enveloped us; Petrov will at least be a deserving winner on merit rather than sympathy.
