Just looking at Shrek's line up just above, wow we look depleted, so many players who are still finding there feet being put into the hot cauldron of a relegation fight.

Gabby needs to step up now like never ever before, if we lose Gabby or his head drops we are surely lost.

He'll stick with Lichaj at RB after last weekend, won't he? But even as I type, I know the answer.

Lose 3-0. We have 1 shot on goal in 90 mins. Big Eck praises the performance and says Mr. Lerner's pep talk worked wonders as he expected us to lose 6-0.

Just to let you know, that isn't the team I want, it's the one McLeish is likely to pick.

Too be far shrek that probably is the best team to play. Albrighton has impressed as a sub only he seems to lack stamina. With Wiemann out the only other option would be heskey ahead of bannan. I'd probably pick Bannan as I wouldn't play him against stoke but heskey brings you the possibility of uping his game against an old club.

Gabby has been pretty anonymous last couple of weeks, so we are due a couple of big performances out of him. If it is looking bad, I would have him off on the hour and save him for Stoke. Having to rely on a guy who has not managed 10 goals over the last 70 games is worrying though! I do wonder whether a conventional 4-4-2 with a high tempo and route 1 with Heskey right up top would be a better plan than packing the midfield with players out of position.

I wouldn't be at all suprised if he's saving some players for Monday.
There is some logic to it somewhere I suppose. Not much point rushing players back from injury when you can give them a little more time to recover in a more winnable fixture.

Agreed.  We are the perfect team for KKKenny to end his bad run with *sad noise*

Lawro's verdict

Villa come into this match in danger of being sucked into the relegation battle and the bad news about Stiliyan Petrov's illness does not help.

Are they missing injured England striker Darren Bent up front? Yes and no. Bent gets you goals but I just think Villa are very negative.

If they had been more of an attacking team then they would be about 10 points better off, but Alex McLeish has his way of playing and he has not really unleashed the players he has got who can win games.

2-0 to Liverpool
